LITTLE SWEET PEA, GOD LOVES YOU is a darling book for a shower gift or welcome to a new baby that tells how much they are loved by both God and family. This will be a book that is read over and over, shared with birth stories, and "eaten" up by the child as they embrace the love God and family has for him.
“Little Sweet Pea, God loves you. From button nose to gentle coo. Squishy cheeks and sparkly eyes, Pure delight and perfect size,” begins Kit Chase’s illustrated children’s book, Little Sweet Pea, God Loves You.
~ What ~ At thirty-two pages, this oversized hardbound with a jacket cover targets children ages four to eight years old who enjoy animals and loving relationships. With no scary scenes, it is a story told in rhyme about God and parents’ love for young children. Including some complicated wording, it would be best read out loud to beginner readers.
With colorful depictions of bears, deer, cats, sheep, giraffes, foxes, owls, hedgehogs, tigers, bunnies, and mice, the rhyming tale explains how the parent cares about his or her offspring, appreciating their characters, features, and actions while reminding them that God loves them too.
~Why ~ This is a charming story of the relationship between parents and children, promoting how wonderfully God loves them too. I like the cute and thoughtful illustrations that include button noses, squishy cheeks, hair swirls, tiny toes, melting giggles, little hands, soft skin, and snuggling before bedtime.
~ Why Not ~ Those who are not parents or are not around young ones may not note the value of love through observation. Beginner readers may find the two- and three-syllable words hard to pronounce.
~ Wish ~ While I appreciate the reminder of God’s love added to this book that is similar to another by the author, I wish the illustrations were a little more eye-catching and detailed to hold the interest of little ones.
~ Want ~ If you are looking for a cute story of the special love parents and God have for children, this is a thoughtful read but may not hold a wee one’s attention.

Oh my, what a precious few minutes I spent on the sofa this morning with my daughters. They're 21 and 17, but we all sat down and I read my new book to them. Little Sweet Pea, God Loves You is a darling little book for littles. Why do I read and review books for little ones? Well, a someday Grandma needs a hope chest of sorts, too, don't you think? Karen Andreola first shared the idea with me. Now I enjoy picture books with my girls and decide if they're keepers. This one is a keeper.
The pages are filled with delightful illustrations by Kit Chase that show a parent or grandparent sharing love with their little one in so many ways. The pages also reveal the love of God to the little someday readers. The pictures are so cute, they inspire a cuddle up and snuggle up session with your little one.
I love the colors. I love everything about this book. The little animals are sweet. The affection displayed shows just how much little ones are cherished. My girls have decided this is definitely a keeper. I may have to think about getting a Grammy's hope chest. ~smile~
Be blessed, and know this is a terrific shower gift for mama and baby.

My Review:
What a precious, little book! The best picture book for snuggling on the couch with my itty bitty. He loved the sweet sentiment and imagery that went along with this sweet book. God loves us all and sweet pea learns just how much.
This sweet, little book can give even the biggest frown a turn for the better. It is a book perfect for gift giving, as well. The big book with its tiny words are huge to the eyes of anyone reading this or being read to--it is just the sweetest.
The illustrations are equally as good and new mom would appreciate a book such as this to add to her ever-growing collection.
I got a little teary-eyed reading Little Sweet Pea, God Loves You. This sweetly illustrated children’s book accurately portrays the wonder of a parent for his/her child. I loved the many animal pairs — parent and child — that inhabit the pages of this book, all expressing how much their child means to them. But better yet, the book describes how God created and loves each child as a unique individual too. This book would make a perfect gift for a new parent. It promises not just a one-time reading, but to become a cherished keepsake that will be read over and over as a child grows. I loved it! I think you will too.
Highly Recommended.
