What do the Gospel accounts actually say about Jesus' death and resurrection? How can we know the biblical accounts are accurate? In his bestselling book The Case for Christ , Lee Strobel retraced his spiritual journey from atheism to faith by showing how the evidence he obtained from experts in the field of history, archaeology, and ancient manuscripts led him to the verdict that Jesus truly was the Son of God. In this four-week Easter study (DVD/digital downloads sold separately), Lee investigates the story surrounding the resurrection of Jesus—and how we can know that it is true. In each session, you'll The Case for Easter invites you and your group to examine the evidence for yourselves and point you to the conclusion that Jesus was the Son of God who conquered the grave. ___________________ Designed for use with The Case for Christmas Video Study/The Case for Easter Video Study (sold separately). This DVD is a set of two videos to accompany The Case for Christmas Study Guide and The Case for Easter Study Guide (each guide sold separately).
Lee Patrick Strobel is an American Christian author and a former investigative journalist. He has written several books, including four that received ECPA Christian Book Awards (1994, 1999, 2001, 2005)[2] and a series which addresses challenges to the veracity of Christianity. He also hosted a television program called Faith Under Fire on PAX TV and runs a video apologetics web site.
I read Lee Strobel's "The Case for Christ" many years ago, all about how the author set out to disprove who the Bible claims Jesus was, and ended up believing it all to be true and becoming Christian.
This is a sort of spin-off book, aimed specifically at the evidence behind the key message of Christianity: The Resurrection.
This book is quite heavy with detail, as Strobel talks of the enquiries he made to various experts about ways in which Jesus' resurrection could have been faked, starting with the possibility that He wasn't really dead. The novel goes into great detail about the realities of what Jesus went through, including the torture He suffered before the Cross.
When the Roman soldiers whipped prisoners, they would give 39 lashes as a standard, but would usually add an indeterminate number of extra ones, depending on the solider's mood. The lashes were so bad that they could result in prisoners' spines and internal organs being exposed, meaning that some wouldn't have even survived to end up on the crucifix. Just the act of nailing a prisoner's hands to the cross would have been agonising (the pain experienced gave rise to the word "excruciating", meaning "from the Cross"). The expert in this book leaves Strobel with no doubt that Jesus did die on the Cross.
The evidence from the number of people who saw Jesus after the resurrection also seems very conclusive, although my favourite point that Strobel raised involved how many of the apostles were martyred would suggest that they wouldn't pretend Jesus was resurrected when He wasn't. No one would martyr themselves for a lie.
A while back I tried reading the full version of this book and it just wasn’t for me. There was a lot of information and details. I’m more of a big picture and some details kind of gal. So this book was perfect.
This book gave a clear big picture and filled it in with only the details you really need to get the three main points.
Good study for your small group or your own individual study. It goes well with the reading text book of the same name. I think it helps you build your faith and confidence in speaking about why you believe Jesus. It does have a lot of facts and details, but it helps you understand more about the facts and details that transpired when Jesus died, was buried and resurrected.
This is a very compelling and informative study of the death and resurrection of Jesus. The video accompaniment provides some very significant information to justify the resurrection of Christ. However, the study guide’s personal homework sections lack some clear direction and understanding of what the reader is supposed to examining.
I have taught many Easter studies through the years, but Lee Strobel's The Case for Easter proves to be quite informative with lots of facts that I did not know. Lee writes to increase the faith of current Christians and to win the faith of those who doubt the identity of Jesus as the Messiah. Lee's research is thorough and his experts are very convincing.
Amazing. My faith has always felt weak. Im turni g to educate myself on more of the historical accounts of jesus. This book definately put a few more notches on My faithfullness. Great read and so informative.
This is a TERRIBLE book. I am a devout Christian, strong in my faith. This book misuses the word "fact" frequently, cherry picks evidence it uses, and simply attempts to manipulate the reader into agreeing with its conclusions. I do not recommend it.
A very straightforward look into historical evidence regarding Jesus’ death and Resurrection. An easy read to offer to someone who is skeptic or encourage one in their own faith.
I try to read this book every year around Easter, as it's short and informative. If you ever crave some more factual information about the death and resurrection of Jesus, this book is for you. I appreciate how Lee Strobel shared how his search to disprove the resurrection actually led him to believe it all to be true and is now a Christian. Our Father is faithful to show up when we seek Him with all our heart.
Used this in an adult Sunday School class. Not my favorite study but appreciated having the Leader's Guide. Would have been difficult to have a good group process without one.
