Chess Pattern Recognition for Beginners: The Fundamental Guide to Spotting Key Moves in the Middlegame

Rate this book
Pattern recognition is one of the most important mechanisms of chess improvement. It helps you to quickly grasp the essence of a position on the board and find the most promising continuation. In his instant classics Improve Your Chess Pattern Recognition (2014) and Train Your Chess Pattern Recognition (2016) International Master Arthur van de Oudeweetering presented building blocks for experienced club players which often involved notable exceptions to a set of fundamental guidelines. To appreciate these books you had to know these basic principles. Chess Pattern Recognition for Beginners provides this knowledge. It teaches the most important patterns you need to know in order to develop and mobilize your pieces, manoeuvre your pawns into positions of strength, put pressure on your opponent, attack the enemy king, or execute standard sacrifices to get the initiative. Ambitious beginners and postbeginners who study this book will soon experience a significant improvement in their results.

I bought it too early!

This is the first paid book that I bought on Chessable in 2019 after just a month of joining that wonderful website.

Everything the book said just bounced off over my head because I was a lower-rated player and was not ready for this wonderful book.

I should have brushed on the basics and bought some other book instead, I was also figuring out how to use the site efficiently, due to those reasons I regretted buying this book.

However, now that I have climbed higher in my rating range and gained a lot of fundamental chess knowledge, I find this book amazing.

If someone wants to start learning about the middlegame then this should be the first book they should buy.

This book is The Checkmate Patterns Manual for the middlegame, a very famous book on Chessable.

I love this book and I am looking forward to reading the other books in the series in the future.
