Imagine you're on a road trip somewhere in the middle of nowhere - no towns for miles; it's nighttime; and there is no cell service. Suddenly; your GPS fails. You didn't print out directions. All you have in your glove compartment is a map and a compass. What would you do? Captain Robert R. Singleton explains the not-so-complicated science of simple navigation. Starting from the absolute basics; "You'll Never Get Lost Again" can teach even the most directionally-challenged how to find their way to any destination with little more than a compass; a map; and a sense of adventure. This book uses simple; easy-to-understand instructions; real-life exercises; detailed diagrams; and straightforward explanations to guide any beginner to a better understanding of basic navigation while also reminding the advanced navigator of the importance of simple concepts in an important science. By the time you've finished "You'll Never Get Lost Again"; you'll have the confidence to know that; as long as you understand the basics; you can find your way to any destination in the world - from the grocery store around the block to the far reaches of the great-untamed wilderness. The world is yours for the navigating.
For my Goodreads followers who just saw me give a 5 star review that are often sparse on my shelves, please read on.
Captain Singleton, Ph.D, won me over with his Foreword in that while this is the second edition, it has been tailored to individuals who have too heavy of a reliance on GPS navigation systems and other types of technology to get around. With my own personal experiences of interacting with individuals who are terrible with directions, I applauded his logic in how he presented us with a simplistic workbook of compass training and map reading that is great for today’s technology-reliant traveler to learn from. Plus, who writes a dedication to Napoleon? C’mon-that’s awesome.
Chapters include graphics, drawings and examples that allow you to monitor your progress, but the only downside would be the reader needing to have dedication to learning compassing, which if you picked up this book, I’d make the safe assumption that you are already that motivated. Not every chapter needs to be completed though (especially if you aren’t planning a nautical voyage).
I received this book from Atlantic Publishing Group for my honest, unbiased opinion.
No I don't mean to write a review but I cannot seem to remove it from GR without doing so. It wasn't worthy of a review ! I t was somewhere between zero and 3.9 stars
