Sir Small and the Sea Monster

Rate this book
Tiny Sir Small rides his trusty ant into Itty-Bitty City and immediately must rise to the challenge of rescuing the prince who, the queen fears, was taken captive by a terrible sea monster while out in his boat (a peanut shell). Beginning readers will chuckle at the final revelation: the sea monster is really a frog.

Since the publication of Fancy Nancy, Jane O'Connor's closet now boasts so many boas, tiaras, and sparkly ensembles that sometimes friends do not recognize her on the street. She still resides (that's a fancy word for lives) in New York City with her family and their canine companion, Arrow. --from the publisher's website

This is an entertaining book for beginning readers. The narrative is short and simple and the illustrations are humorous. The story was a bit basic for our girls, but they loved the tiny aspect of the kingdom and the fact that the 'sea monster' was such a mundane creature to us. And we enjoyed reading a different kind of story by Jane O'Connor. We've really enjoyed reading her Fancy Nancy books, and this story is a fun departure from her well-known series. We enjoyed reading this book together.

This is a level 2 reading book, It's simple and at times basic with short sentences so I would say a merging from level 1 reader could read this with 'help'.

In a very tiny land there was an even smaller knight. A sea monster came and no one knew what had happened to the kingdoms prince. But everyone else was afraid of the monster to find the Prince. Sir Small was brave and he went and defeated the monster and ran him off and found the Prince. Proving that no matter how small you are you can still do big things!
