Britain's Best Home Cook and Eat Well for Less presenter Chris Bavin shares over 100 of his favourite simple family recipes in his first ever solo cookbook, Good Food Sorted. Chris explains how to make the most of your freezer (just wait until you try frozen flavoured butter or herb-and-oil ice cubes) and gives tips on savvy shopping as well as revealing all the storecupboard staples you need. He also explains the benefits of batch cooking. Chris recommends flavour swaps that breathe new life into old favourites and simple but imaginative ideas that can transform weeknight dinners into weekend winners! This cookbook is ideal for anyone who wants to eat good food but is hard-pressed for time. Among the tantalising recipes are slightly spicy chicken enchiladas, smoked salmon and horseradish fish cakes with garlic and lemon mayo and warm run pineapple with lime mascarpone.
I was drawn to this book, not only for the contents, but because of the author Chris Bavin who is a favorite of mine. I admit to binge watching the programs he's on as a judge on UK cooking shows - not only because I love the competitions but also because I think he's a great judge and I've learned a lot from him.
As a person from across the pond, some of the things they love to eat make me blink sometimes, and there have been more than a few I'd never heard of. Being allergic to most seafood, I do fast forward through the fish segments but if you love seafood you're in for some big treats.
This book focuses on simplifying the art of home cooking. I am of Italian and Native American heritage and I tend to do a lot of American and Italian cooking at home. I'd love to see Chris come to one of our native pow wows and sample some indigenous food too just to see what he'd say about fry bread, wild rice, and other indigenous foods.
I love this book! It is full to the rim of easy recipes which anyone can have a go at. It is also laid out well and full of tips for cooking every day. Looking forward to another book!
