From creator of Veggie Tales® Phil Vischer, these fun and easy-to-read picture books based on the popular video series Buck Denver Asks... What's in the Bible? teach children about character and virtue through beloved Bible stories.
What does it mean to be a good friend?
Buck Denver wants to be friends with God, so he makes a giant robot suit to be closer to Him. To help Buck understand the true meaning of friendship, his friends share their favorite Bible stories. First, Sunday School Lady tells him all about David and Jonathan and their loyalty to one another in tough times. Then Pastor Paul talks about how Jesus offers friendship to each of us. In the end, Buck learns that God uses friends to help us grow stronger and our friendship with Jesus helps us grow closer to God!

In 2005 he started Jellyfish Labs a new creative workshop where he produces faith-based projects. Starting in 2010, Vischer produced "What's In The Bible," a direct-to-DVD video series using puppetry and animation to present biblical material.

From the author that brought us VeggieTales, another new series to bring joy and love of our Christian faith to our little ones. I am so happy that there are these books geared to toddlers that share my values. Another great book for Miss Z and she loves to have it read to her, she gets really excited when we get to the fuzzy part! With life lessons, and great colored pages that draw her eyes, this is getting to be her most requested read. This book shares the David and Goliath story, and how friends help!
I received this book through WorthyKids Blog Tour, and was not required to give a positive review.
The buck Denver books are cute and present a good message to the child. Buck Denver's attempt to be closer to God (long legs of the Giant Robot Suit) and to be able to easily help other folks (long arms to reach out and help) falls flat as he gets tripped up and falls breaking into pieces.
Typically flawed thinking as many of us think we can reach up to God with this or that aid or if we just "had more talents" we could help more folks. But it fails, just as the Giant Robot Suit fails.
What I like about the book.... The illustrations are happy, cheerful, and show excitement. The Bible stories (David and Goliath and the David and Jonathan) are nicely told. The book teaches a great lesson in having friends.
What I don't care for..... I think the story jumps around too much. From a church/Sunday School setting where Buck shows up in his catastrophe of a robot suit to the classroom where they magically jump "into" the flannel-graph lesson. Then the Sunday School Lady teaches two different Bible stories as lessons on how Buck can have more friends and can help others. I like the Bible stories but just felt that two was a bit much.
There is a nice page in the back titled "Family Connection." This helps the family utilize the story to Know the love of God, Grow in God's love, an Show God's love to others.
The book and story definitely have merit but it simply wasn't as appealing to me as others. So I would suggest purchasing it from a book store where you can actually see it for yourself and determine if this is a book that would appeal to you and your child.

Buck Denver makes a giant robot suit in order to be closer to God, but Marcy and Sunday School Lady have a better idea. Sunday School Lady takes them on a trip with her magical flannelgraph to tell the story of David and Jonathan. Pastor Paul teaches about how we can be friends of Jesus.
These fun bible-based stories are fun and whimsical yet teach important lessons of faith, friendship, and thankfulness. I grew up with Veggie Tales, and it has been really fun seeing what Phil Vischer is working on now with What's in the Bible?
These picture book adventures are fun and whimsical with great gospel-centered messages at the heart. They are funny and self-aware, I really liked the nod to old school Sunday School with the magical flannelgraph.
Even if you haven't seen What's in the Bible? these books are a terrific and engaging introduction to some of the characters. They are funny and foundational, with sound Bible teaching directed towards children, a fun read aloud or for your young beginning reader. The illustrations are whimsical and bright, capturing the vibe of the these fun picture books. Perfect for sharing these books would make great gifts, children will love the humorous adventures and the solid Bible lessons. I enjoyed them so much and will be sharing them with many children at my church!

This story was really cute! The words were simple and easy to read for my 8.5 year old.
Buck and his friends were able to discuss how David and Jonathan’s friendship helped them grow closer to God. The example of Jesus teaching his apostles about becoming more like him and serving others was also mentioned.
I liked that they included a “Family Connection” page in the back of the book which had suggested questions and scriptures to read as a family. Loved the bright color pictures and simple message of this book. Fun to read and my son loved it!
I received a copy of this book complimentary for blog and social media review. All opinions are my own.
