Love in the Ruins

Rate this book
Archaeologist, Rebecca Walker has been granted the job of a lifetime - to work in the ruins of Pompeii - her dream since she first visited the ancient site. A week later she arrives in the small town, excited for this new chapter in her life. Gian Caravello, back from several years overseas fighting against terrorist insurgents and weary of bloodshed, plans to see out his career with the Carabinieri in his home town. A forgotten backpack, and an unwelcome phone call brings the two together and their attraction is undeniable. The more time they spend together, the deeper they fall, but, as Vesuvius once threatened Pompeii, a terrible danger stalks the couple and a ghost from Gian's past is intent on wreaking revenge. In a place where past and present collide, can Gian and Rebecca survive, or will their love end up in ruins?

I loved this book. A swoonworthy Italian carabiniere, a beautiful archaeologist and Pompeii - pretty much the trifecta of awesome for me. I understand this is Ms Naclerio's debut book and it's superb - fast paced, with an eclectic collection of characters, and an intriguing plot. Having visited Pompeii, I am always fascinated by how others portray it and found the descriptions of both the modern town and the ancient site to be spot on, clearly the author has either been, or conducted some very thorough research. The romance between Rebecca and Gian has just the right amount of steam, and the threat which poses a serious threat their happiness is well written - the underlying fear a good foil to the budding love affair. All in all a great read! For me it offers the perfect mix - Italy, ancient ruins, a heated romance, strong characters (and not just the central ones) and a great plot...oh and wine!! An easy 5 stars

Love in the Ruins by Josie Naclerio is a beautifully atmospheric romance that blends history, suspense, and heartfelt connection. As a book explorer, I was drawn to the evocative setting of Pompeii, where past and present collide, heightening both the romance between Rebecca and Gian and the sense of looming danger around them.

I recommend this book to readers who enjoy romantic stories with depth, rich settings, and a touch of intrigue. It’s a compelling read that balances love, healing, and suspense against the unforgettable backdrop of one of history’s most haunting places.
