A coming-of-age fantasy novel about a girl whose birth reawakens evil once again.
22-year-old Glen never asked for powers. So when a bossy cat shows up with a training regime, the gal shows no interest whatsoever. After all, Glen doesn't believe she has the potential to become a sorceress. The gal prefers her life (simple as it is) without spells or crazy chants. The last thing Glen wants to do is fight the evil that's ahead of her.
Unfortunately for her, she cannot refuse the offer. She needs to become a dominant sorceress as soon as possible. Otherwise, the fate of the world will be severe if she refuses her destiny.
So does Glen have any options? The first option is to accept the upcoming fate and destruction of the world. Or take the second option: to engage in her task and become a sorceress to save the world as a real heroine.
DONE. Wow. I am proud of myself for slugging through this novel. I read some reviews before starting, and I was trying to stay optimistic because the premise was so intriguing.
However, the reviews are true. Glen is a terrible main character. She is severely flawed and not in a relateable way, she is very judgmental and mean. There is some character growth, but at the beginning of the novel she has a BFF... and spoiler when she is killed along with all of her other friends she is sad for about one-sentence and later in the novel is stating she never cared for these people.
I like strong and independent women, but Glen takes it to a whole new level. She is whiny, and completely terrible and also has a flippant attitude towards everyone and yet somehow creates this 'new friend' group instantly.
The best part of this novel was Gwen the cat, yes two of the main characters were Glen and Gwen (such creativity). This novel really needs a more cohesive plot; here is a lot happening in this short novel. I know it is going to be a series but the reader needs descriptive words and sequences...not just being told what is happening and moving on to the next drama or fight. More substance within the novel; that is really what was lacking for me personally.
I can get past the incestuous relationships (which I knew going into this novel from the reviews and how this author apparently wants her novels to be review), I can get past the annoying main character that you are hoping to die. I unfortunately, cannot get past this writing style. It just was not for me.
For me to continue on at all with this series, it would need a major re-write, a complete overall during editing and just a more cohesive story. Glenn being a sorceress, then possessed by Nyx...it was all a bit much to cram into one novel.
Overall I am glad with my perseverance to complete this novel, and will be looking forward to hopefully another novel that will be engaging right from the hop and more up my alley.
I will begin by saying that I received this book from Voracious Readers Only and they wanted an honest review, well here goes. I did go into this thinking that I would quite enjoy this book, its not my typical read but it was something that drew me in. However, I was fairly disappointed.
This is my first ever 1 star rating, which feels awfully strange to me but, it cant be helped. The narrative was confusing and awfully rushed. As for the main character, I truly disliked her, she was judgmental and overall rude. I could not get into this book and did not enjoy it from the start. To me it felt as though this book has been written by a very inexperienced author, the way in which she introduced some characters like the "BFF" I found irritating and the character Glen and Gwen just felt unoriginal to me.
Overall this book lacked description and felt extremely rushed, the main character was extremely disappointing and dismissive and I really did not enjoy the book.
I don't normally read this genre, but the Cover intrigued me (the one with the Moon on it, This cover with the girl is new). Sadly, I was disheartened when I started reading it. This book has the potential to be a great read. I found quite a few errors, and I'm far from the grammar police LOL. I did finish reading it because I wanted to fully understand the story. I highly recommend waiting to purchase this book After the Author hires an editor to edit this book. - (It has some story line issues, as well as spelling, grammar, and there is a lack of believablity for the portions that are the set in "real" world).
Only One Lonely Star for me. ____________
*I was given a free copy of this book to give an honest review on my blog.
I received this book from Voracious Readers Only for an honest review.
When I saw the synopsis of the book, I definitely thought it could be a book I would enjoy. I like reading fantasy and science fiction novels, especially ones that transport me to different places.
However, I could not get into this one. The writer tells instead of showing and there are quite a few strange grammatical constructions. I did not like that the main character called her friend only by BFF instead of by a name as well. Lots happened really fast without much development. I felt like I was told something happened and then we just moved on.
I enjoyed this novel. It had a strong and imaginative plot and well-crafted characters. It does, however, need help from a professional editor, enough that I have to deduct a star and earn readers who can not tolerate that sort of thing. For me personally, though, it did not prevent me from enjoying what really was a darn good yarn. Since I’m dictating this review from my hospital bed to my poor tired husband to post, I won’t say more other than my bottom line, which is that I do indeed recommend the book.
I read this as I had received a free copy from Voracious Readers. I did manage to finish the book although it was a struggle. The writing style was definitely not for me. It was very haphazard and the grammar was in need of work. It reminded me a great deal of something a high school student would produce.
The core story is a good one but the execution is lacking. The jumping around of conversations and poor spelling and grammar are hard for me to get past. This book really needs an editor or at the very least a decent beta reading team.
I recieved this book from the author through Voracious Readers Only and I just want to say that an editor is needed. The grammar is horrid and I had to force myself to keep reading until the end. The basic story isn't bad but it needs work.
I think this author has serious heart and talent and can really write but unfortunately I don’t think this story has a easy to follow flow and rhythm. A little too much enthusiasm from the main character was a bit to get over. I love sci-fi and fantasy but this story was a little too over the top.
I couldn't finish the book. The writing itself is just terrible. It's not even the way the time of its written, it just readout isn't that good. There's nothing that makes me feel the urge to keep reading at all
Free copy in exchange for a review. From the description of this book, I was curious to see where it would go but from reading the first chapter onwards, I was disappointed.
The style in which it is written is not for me and the main character just felt one dimensional and bored me.
I was given for honest unbiased review. I really was looking forward to this read and found it to be really really hard to get into and enjoy. I found the plot to be all over the place and felt like story didn’t make sense.
I received this book free from Voracious Readers Only in exchange for writing a review. Unfortunately, this book wasn't as good as other books I've received. I couldn't get into it at all, and I ended up deleting the book before I even finished it.
Try as I might I can't seem to get into this Book........usually within the first few sentences I'm hooked.....however I struggled unfortunately and had to give up
Not a bad read. I kept on losing what was actually happening. Alot of spelling mistakes as well. I would of given it a 5 star rating, i just didnt get into the book.
DNF at 2%. ...I feel really weird about stopping the story so soon after starting, but this reads like there was no editing whatsoever, and the story suffers. I suffered. I’m stopping here at 2%.
Ok, this book really did not have feeling. The characters, the way they would feel, I could not connect. The characters themselves did not necessarily flow together. The story jumped right into it, but it was all over the place. The main Character, Glen, seems to narrate here and there throughout the story, but it doesn’t really flow.
The main character, Glen turned out to be Goddess and she went through a lot. The friends she made along the way were not normal, one was a stuffed cat, one was a humanoid and the other was possessed by a ghost. Eventually, within the story, you get an explanation of how each one becomes, but it still didn’t make much sense of how or exactly why they were there and who exactly each person was. It almost seemed like they were trying to recreate their circle. With the ending, there is apparently more books to come. Hopefully it’s more detailed and put together.
