“I want to kiss him, but I don’t. This is more than that connection could ever be, this is me coming alive in his arms. I don’t want to fall in love, I want to fall into life.”

▬⋆▬⋆▬⋆▬⋆▬⋆▬⋆▬⋆▬⋆▬⋆▬⋆▬⋆▬⋆▬⋆▬⋆▬

Eu gostei dos personagens principais, Ollie e Jo, ambos têm um passado difícil e estão tentanto seguir em frente com suas vidas.
É uma história emotiva e com partes dolorosas e de partir o coração.

“Even with puffy red eyes she’s still gorgeous to me, and her broken soul talks to mine with unspoken words that neither of us understand.”

“He makes me feel things that scare me, but at the same time makes all my fears disappear.”

“Olly is the sea and I am the sand, we will always long to be together like this.”

I absolutely loved this story. I read it in one sitting as I couldn’t possibly put it down.

As with each of this authors books I highly recommend you go in blind. Feel the words, feel the story.

Last Resort will take you on an emotional rollercoaster that will stay with you for a long time.

If your looking for a well written contemporary romance then go 1-click Olly and Jo’s story. You won’t regret it. I loved it.

“You saved me Olly, you taught me to float when all I wanted to do was drown”

Characters:
Jo (24): 15 months earlier, Jo lost the love of her life when a boat they were on caught fire and he drowned. After attempting suicide, her best friend whisks her off to an island where they can spend the summer away from the reminders of what Jo lost.

Olly: Eight years ago Olly suffered a career ending injury that sent him into a tailspin. After attempting suicide, his parents brought him to the island hoping he would find some healing. He realized the ocean was a healing balm to his soul and he never left the island.

The Story:
Olly and all his friends work at the island resort. When they are not working, they party, get high and have sex. I will say that it didn’t seem like anyone on this island had any big life ambitions. Also, in order to earn extra money, it seems like the resort workers pimp themselves out.
“I promise I’ll make your holiday worth it.” I say the line I’ve used a thousand times and kiss her hard against the door I’ve just shut. “You don’t need him to have a good time.” One or two nights like this and a charming smile when I see them is all it takes to ensure I get a huge tip every time I serve her. If it doesn’t then a little threat about husbands finding out does the trick and keeps us in the food and weed for the summer.”

This behavior aside, I did like Olly. He was not finding enjoyment in his present situation and was ready to move on. When he sees Jo for the first time, he is instantly attracted. He recognizes her sad eyes and knows they have something in common.

These two begin to spend time together and get to know each other a bit. They share their first kiss around 15% and have a bit of a slow burn to the bedroom which happens around 55%. Olly knew he was in love with her around 40%.

There are sweet moments between these two as Olly tries to help Jo out of her depression and overcome her fear of water. However, I just didn’t connect and something was lacking for me. I only knew surface things about these characters (no info about their families, how they were raised, core values, life goals, dreams, where they came from, where they were hoping to end up, etc.). I felt like character depth was missing and because I didn’t really know them, I couldn’t “feel” them. Therefore, the emotional aspect was pretty much missing for me.

When Jo’s time on the island is up, they part and it’s another 18 months before they are reunited. Once again, pretty high level descriptions about what they went through during the time apart but it all wraps up neatly with a HEA.

Overall, it’s a 3 star read for me as due to lack of character depth I couldn’t connect and I felt like I read a summary of their journey. Plus, it just kind of always had this sad overtone and that’s not what I was expecting when I picked it up.

5 stars just don't seem like enough!! This book was amazing......A-MAZING!! I knew going in that this wasn't going to be the "typical" Ashleigh G book but that was really the extend of what I knew. I had no doubts that the book was going to be great but I didn't realize just how great. It's a very emotional and beautiful story of loss, despair, healing and living. Jo and Olly have both suffered tremendous losses, Olly has healed himself with the ocean and now he wants to do the same for Jo. He teaches her to float and move past the pain.

This book was given to me at my request and I provided this review voluntarily

Jo and Olly are perfectly, imperfect! I love this book, it was sweet, heart wrenching, sexy, and all the feels. Overcoming life is hard, but time on the island can heal, bring you full circle, bring you peace. These characters gave me hope, for love, for people in general. I can't wait to see where Ashleigh takes us on our next island adventure!

"We move together like a rock band playing a ballad, every chord an aching testament of feelings pouring from our souls."

IS THIS THE SAME AUTHOR? Did someone kill Ash and take over her body. She traded in blood for feelings. Omg. The feelings, Yo.

At first glance, I'm like, hmmm. I don't do lovey dovey reads. Occasionally I need them though. Something to keep some light in my life. I LOVED THIS one. It gave me back my heart and made sure I hadn't let the darkness completely consume me. This one isn't all lovey dovey anyway. The emotions bled from the pages. The characters truly evoke something that begs to be needed, a need you didn't know you wanted, but were destined to. An off chance of acceptance and love! They clicked within me.

"We tell each other love stories with nothing more than a lingering look. Love can only be found on the edges of heartbreak, and we are walking a tightrope right on that edge."

I love angst. And I'm excited to say, I didn't want to finish this book. All the thoughts and energy was devastating to me. I'm like, nope, I'll sit right here and hope someone will force me to read. Just read it to me, I can't do this. I can't do this.

“Olly, you’re going to break my heart, I know it.” She admits what I already know. “I promise to do it gently, Jo. I will keep all the pieces together so you can put it together again."

Alright since you don't know why I'm all flabbergasted. This story holds something that we all needed in our life. A break. A breath. It's what keeps us sane. And I fell in love with all of it. Every bit of it. It's fast paced, but packs one helluva punch of emotions and hope. I can't believe the same author I've come to love wrote this. Not that she's not great, it's just more than I've ever felt. It's amazing.

When Ashleigh first sent me Last Resort she warned me that I would get some serious feels with this book. I smiled and said "we'll see." Welp. As God is my witness, I experienced so many feels that I wanted to throttle her.

I was angry, sad, happy, and crying throughout Last Resort.

This is a beautiful story about a girl and her friend who go on a vacation. Jo has a rough past and her friend is trying to help her get over it (in a manner of speaking.)

Enter Olly.

Things start out innocently enough between the two and while Jo feels for Olly, she's still too tightly gripped onto her past to let go. But Olly is persistent and they start to get closer.

Even with that clusterfuck of a friend of his (queue my anger) and with how things ended between the two of them, I managed to cry and find my feels before the end.

AND THAT END. OH EM GEE.

So yeah. Read it; it's worth all the turmoil you'll feel.

I absolutely LOVED this book! I have loved everything that this author has written, and when she opened herself up to writing a slightly different genre of read, I wondered how things would turn out. I was so blown away by her first endeavour in this new genre. This books is beyond brilliant!

From the start, there is depth and life in the main characters, really pulling you in, so that you want to know their story. You see a glimpse into their past and what makes them tick the way they do, live the life they are currently and see just why their next steps cause them to collide into one another. I loved getting to know them more, as Ashleigh really gave us lots of detail and little bits of their lives, to make you feel very connected with both the characters and the story.

The pace was brilliant. You definitely felt as though you were moving like the ocean, sometimes the story came crashing in at a swift pace, really taking you over by storm, and at other times it was gradual, like the tide changing, giving you time to take in the story and new information. I loved that, as it made it very exciting and great to read.

Overall, this is one brilliant read and en epic start to a new genre of reading, from such a brilliant author. I loved it and highly recommend it to all.

Last resort is different to the other books that I’ve read by this author and I loved it. It’s packed full of emotions and the characters are both really easy to like and relate to.

Jo is broken. Having been through an emotional wringer, Jo is struggling and has been for a while. Deciding to go away for a break, she’s hoping she can put the broken pieces of herself together and Olly is just the man to help her. I adored both Jo and Olly. They’re both flawed in their own way and that made them so much easier to connect with. While Olly has found a way to handle his past, Jo hasn’t got a clue what she’s doing and I loved how Olly not only knew what she needed but actually wanted to genuinely help her. At first glance you could be fooled into thinking what you see is what you get with Olly but I soon found out there’s another side to the carefree persona he shows and the more I found out about him, the harder I fell for him.

Although Last Resort is very different from A Giannocarro’s usual books, it still has everything I’ve come to expect from this author. Brilliant characters that aren’t perfect nor do they pretend to be and a fantastic story that I sucked me in and that I didn’t want to end.

Last Resort is the type of book that grabs you by the soul, pulls you in, chews you up and refuses to spit you back out until you are utterly destroyed.

Instantly upon turning through the pages its obvious how much these characters will make you feel. The emotion poured out onto the pages by Ashleigh G is intense, and inescapable. I wouldn't trade it fir anything else though.

Jo and Olly don't have it easy. They've both been through trauma in their lives and are Looking for escape. Olly found his in the surf, and Jo doesn't even begin to know where to search. Both of these characters drew me in and kept me entranced until i finished the book.

Reading Last Resort was an amazing experience for me. I got wrapped up in the simplicity that is Olly, but also tangled up in the complexity of Jo. The two are perfect chaos together, even with the struggles they have to endure.

Olly and Jo have sealed their fate in my top 5 book couples and I wish I had more if them, or could reread the story for the first time again.

Ms Giannoccaro has branched out and has created a fantastic Contemporary Romance novel. The Last Resort centres around Olly, Jo, Terry and Liv. Some of these characters are swoon worthy, loveable, understanding, supportive and of course there is your customary idiot ( yeah we'll go with that).

Their story will take you on an emotional rollercoaster and at times you will be gutted and yelling at your kindle or saying 'thank god they came to their senses'. About time.

This book just proves the A. Giannoccaro is so diverse, she can cover many different genres and reach a vast amount of readers. I have really enjoyed this lighter side to her books and one that makes you come alive with all the 'feels'. Even though I revel in her dark books I'm looking forward to more lighter reads from this author.

Well done A. G. You nailed it.

This book! Jo is broken and goes to this little broken down beach house for the summer with her best friend. Her friend is hoping that this time away will help Jo begin to heal but Jo is not only unwilling to let go of the past just yet, she is afraid of the ocean. Olly lives in an even more broken down beach house right next door. He is instantly drawn to the beautiful girl with the sad eyes. He believes that the ocean can heal and wants to help Jo overcome her fears. What happens is a story full of beauty and emotion. I laughed, I cried, I raged, and I fell in love. I want to move to the beach and find a gorgeous surfer with messy blond hair to teach me how to float.

Oh the feels in this book! Jo and Olly were both characters that I just clicked with on equal terms. Jo is stuck in a cycle of grief whilst Olly is just living for the moment, biding time for a new direction in his life. The connection between them was powerful and emotional and hit my heart hard. In addition to all the emotional feels, Ashleigh’s descriptive words made me smell that ocean air, feel the soft sand beneath my feet and picture every beautiful scene - fabulous and well deserved five stars!

We’ve all heard it before: If you love someone set them free…

Jo is hurting. She’s come to the island resort to escape her life and try to rid herself of the all-consuming sadness that has taken over. Here, she meets Olly. He works at the resort and has an eye for Jo.

This book is full of emotion. It will have you wondering if Olly and Jo really are meant to be. Or if they should just move on and simply consider their romance a summer fling.

This story was happy and sad, light and dark, heavy and breezy. You’re going to want to read this one.

I'll admit, I had a hard time getting into this book. I don't think it had anything to do with Ashleigh G's story, but more to do with my dark soul not being able to immediately get into contemporary romances.

As the story went on I started enjoying it more. Then, as I got to the end I got all the feelz. I'm kind of somewhere in the middle with this one, but still enjoyed it as a whole.

I was really excited to start reading Last Resort.
The end of the first chapter absolutely ripped my heart out. Jo's pain was so raw. I ached for her.
This book was written in such a way that it was as if I was on the shore alongside them hearing the waves crashing and enjoying the scent of the beach on the wind. It was brilliantly done.
The way that Jo and Olly continued to get closer and closer and heal one another held me rapt. I adored these characters and couldn't put this book down once I started.
Ashleigh G did an incredible job with this book. Last Resort was absolute perfection and will stay with me long after I set it on my shelf. The words were so perfectly written and the story so achingly beautiful. It is hard to even put into words how this story made me feel.

This was a beautifully written story about a troubled girl and the guy who tries to help her stay afloat when she feels like she's drowning in more ways than one.

Jo goes on vacation with her best friend to try and salvage some kind of happiness even if it's only for the summer. Jo has lost her way, the girl she once was has gone and she needs to find herself again.

Olly left his past behind him. Now a carefree soul, a surfer who works and lives the Island life. He's working towards his dream. Nothing is going to get in his way. Until his new neighbour unleashes something in him he didn't know he was looking for.

Olly recognizes the pain in the eyes of the girl who's renting the shack next to his for the summer.
It's a look he knows all to well and he wants to put a smile on her face. If only for a while.

These two captivated me, yes I wanted to scream at them both but i really wanted them to go the distance.
They made me gasp, brought a tear to my eye and had me twisted up in knots by the time I'd finished.
I was totally fascinated by life on the Island. I can see the allure of living by the Ocean.

Last Resort is a different style of writing than I'm used to from Ashleigh, but she's smashed it with this book. I was completely consumed with this story. It pulled all kinds of emotions from me that I wasn't expecting.

I love when an Author has the ability to surprise me when they write something different. It shows how versatile they are. I like being kept on my toes.
I'm looking forward to more books with all the feels in the future because this one was fantastic, a perfect summer read for all romance lovers.

Five Star Must Read book

"Love can only be found on the edges of heartbreak"

This book is different from any of the books by Ashleigh G. and showcases a lighter side, and proves that sometimes different is definitely a good thing. This book still gave me all the feels, and the same level of excellent quality writing I have come to expect from this author. No matter if it's a dark romance, one that makes you think, cringe, cry, or a contemporary romance Ashleigh G. knows how to write a story that draws you in from the first page until the very end.

Last Resort is about Jo,who takes a vacation to learn to live again, and Olly, a carefree surfer, who just may be the person to help her and bring her back to life.

Jo is sad and in her own words "I'm the girl that’s already dead, I’m just waiting for the right time to die." But sometimes life, or fate, or whatever you call it has other plans for us.

Enter Olly the sexy surfer boy next door who seems to be carefree and worry free, but who has a past full of just as much pain.

Is a summer romance just what they both need? Or will one summer not be enough? This book is going to blow you away in such a great way. This is definitely one of my top 10 picks for 2018, and an absolute must read 5 star book. #2018MustRead 💜💜

Ashleigh Giannoccaro what have you done to me, because this story has hit me right in the heart and the feels!

A beautiful story about two people learning to float when life is trying to drown them. This is a powerful and emotional tale that hits you right to the core and leaves you breathless. It is simultaneously heartbreaking and yet so damn beautiful.

It tears your heart right open, then slowly puts it back together again. Ashleigh made an absolute mess out of me with this one and I loved every minute of it.

Olly and Jo are two unlikely people that connected after a chance meeting and their story is one I will never forget. There were times where I couldnt see my kindle through my tears and times where I wanted to dick-punch a certain character, I'm looking at you Terry!

Im not sure what I thought was going to happen in the end but none of it was predictable, yet I think some things seemed inevitable. I connected alot to Olly and Jo, but both in different ways, particularly the struggle to continue after a loss.

This has been an outstanding, and emotional story and going on this journey with these characters has been amazing.

💙 Olly and Jo 💙

Exceptional!
The best way to enjoy this read is by going in blindly!!
I had no idea what to expect with this read. I liked the cover, the author is a favorite and the blurb was intriguing.
O-M-G!! I’m so glad I went in blindly! What an exceptional story!
Unique, intense and captivating, I was totally absorbed by this story. I found this read to be a departure from other stories by this author, confirming her brilliance in telling her readers, good, solid stories.
This is the story of Jo. She decides to rent a beach shack with her “best friend” to recover from some painful situations. The beach is where Jo goes to regroup and recharge her batteries. When she meets her new beach neighbor Ollie, all her original plans suddenly changed and her life got interesting.
These characters were flawlessly created. They were relatable and real whether you liked them or not.
As the story unfolded, the reader was taken in an emotional journey that just held you even if you wanted to walk away.
This angsty and poignant story was an emotional story of life, loss and healing!

Ashleigh G is truly a remarkable author. Last Resort is completely different from what she normally put out for is to read. This story got me to open my eyes to what living in the dark feels like. Not knowing when you're going to see the light again. Until you meet that one person that pushes you and guides you there.

Jo needed time away from the world, and Olly came crashing down into her world like a tidal wave. Olly gives off this presence to him and has so much patience.  Jo trying to figure out a way to float and not feel so heavily weighted, she leans onto Olly. They share a heartache and feel with so much emotion.

Wonderfully written and a short read to give you all kinds of feels. It brings all your emotions to the surface. This review was originally posted on Garcia Sisters' Book Blog

Ashleigh G has written a heart warming romance, that will make you cry, laugh, shout and cry again.

Olly is a very laid back easy going guy living life with one goal in mind, but sometimes the best laid plans are not fool proof and once the heart is involved things get messy.

Jo - I loved Jo and felt her feelings throughout this story, she is destroyed, trying to re-build a life she has lost and gets far more than she would have ever dreamed of.

I love all the other character's in this gripping story, well almost all of them one or two I wanted to slap but mix them altogether and you will get a real page turner, some surprises , lots of love and all the feels.

Highly recommended romance read.

I also believe that the ocean cures everything !!

Talk about a book hangover. This book has all the feels and it leaves you in tatters, and that is a good thing.
Jo is on vacation with her BBF Liv, trying to learn how to live again. Olly the handsome surfer boy with his own demons is determined to help her live again. These two, I just wanted to reach into my kindle and hug them both.
This book grabbed my heart and soul from page 1 and still has a hold on both. The connection between the two is both amazing and heartbreaking. You will be laughing at times and crying at others. I actually read this in one sitting I was so hooked and rooting for these two, I could not put it down.
Once again Ashleigh's amazing talent shines through in this must read book.
