A split-second decision throws ordinary family man Noah’s life into chaos in this utterly gripping thriller that will have you hooked from the first page to the last. If you love James Patterson, Harlan Coben and Gregg Hurwitz, you’ll love Finders Keepers.
What if you could change your life with one little lie?
Noah Kendall loves his family, but hates his teaching job. Mortgage, bills and mouths to be fed: he’s stuck in a rut. And with more debts piling up each day, he knows that something has to change.
As he opens yet another red letter, he has to get out and clear his head, despite the heavy Alaskan snow outside. His legs ache as he runs deeper into the forest, until he notices something in the distance – a crashed car, sitting dead still. Inside, a girl sits slumped in the driver’s seat, eyes closed, mouth open, skin grey beneath the winter frost.
And then beside her he sees it: a bag of money. And lots of it. Enough to pay off his debt and start a whole new life. And it’s just sitting there, waiting for him to take it...
What would you do?
This book was previously published as The Dead Girl.
4☆ A Crime Thriller Filled with Drama, that plays on your Concious!
Finders keepers is a story of consequences, debt and drama. It's a well thought out Crime Thriller that makes for a thought provoking and pacy read.
If you was in huge debt and you happen to come across a bag full of money next to a dead person in a car crash..... would you take It????
That's exactly what I was asking myself whilst reading Finders keepers!... would I take it? Truth I have no clue! I'm certain I wouldn't be comfortable stealing from a dead person!
Well that's exactly the predicament Noah finds himself in when he discovers a bag full of money lying next to a dead women who has been involved in a car crash. He takes the money and runs off home.
This money would change his families life. But we all know that no one leaves 2.2million laying around unless it's somewhat dodgy! Why did the young women have that kind of money on her!
However things are about to go downhill for Noah when his Ex Brother in Law Colton makes an appearance and discovers Noah' s stash of cash. Now Colton has a Minipulative streak and pursuades Noah to keep the money and that he should get a share too.
Things just seem to be spiralling out of control for Noah and he just keeps getting deeper and deeper in trouble.
Finch has created well thought-out characters and a twisting plot. Each Character Flawed in their own dark way.
The power of greed and consequences plays a big message throughout the story. Finders keepers is a thought provoking read that plays on your mind well after reading it.
If you enjoy Crime Thrillers filled with Drama that will play on you concious, then you will really enjoy this book.
Thank you to Bookouture for this copy which I reviewed honestly and voluntarily.
She's speeding through a snowstorm. She knows she should slow down, but the horror of what she's just done keeps her foot on the pedal. She glances at the bag on the passenger seat. She wonders if it's all been worth it. Her tires lose traction and the last thing she sees in the tree directly in front of her.
Noah Kendall is an English teacher, his wife is a nurse. They have a daughter. He has taken a sabbatical to write a book. The money is tight and his wife is tired of working what seems like all the time, while Noah sits at his desk eyeballing a young woman who lives next door.
He and his wife get into an argument because of over-due bills and his obsession with the woman next door. He storms out of the house to take a run ... something to clear his mind and decide what to do.
He made one decision ... to follow an off-beaten path ... which will change his life forever. He sees a wrecked car ... he sees a dead woman in the driver's seat ... he sees a bag sitting next to her. What he discovers is that bag is full of money. He makes another decision ... grab the bag and walk away. The woman is dead ... and he needs the money.
How he expects his life to change is not what he gets. It's a convoluted story of how crime doesn't pay .... or does it?
This is a well-written crime fiction with outstanding characters. From Noah, who really is a good guy who made a mistake, to his suffering wife, to the 911 Operator who lives next door, to the scheming brother in law, to the cop who's having a fling with with neighbor .... they all bring credibility.
This is not the first book of this author's that I have read ...and it won't be the last. Full of twists and turns, you never know where this author will take you. You just know it's going to be exciting.
Many thanks to the author / Bookouture / Netgalley for the advanced digital copy of this thriller. Opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.
It took me a while to get into Finders Keepers because the opening chapters are like something from a teenage boy’s wet dream. Reading about Noah creepily spying on his neighbour Charlie having sex, getting changed and creating a tent in his pants had me actually wondering whether K T Finch was in fact a teenage boy, but no she is a woman and I suppose as with the way some women take umbrage with how men write women, it seems that can also work the other way round.
The basic premise for Finders Keepers is actually pretty exciting with Noah randomly stumbling across a dead body in a car deep in the Alaskan forest. In the seat next to the dead body is $2.2 million and so what does Noah do, well he steals it of course and leaves the body to rot further. And so ensues an at times silly and plot hole filled story as Noah tries to decide what to do with the money. The character of Noah is the cliche of what an unpublished author is believed to be like. I’m not sure I ever actually liked him as I read this story, and don’t feel he was fleshed out enough beyond being a disillusioned teacher and wannabe author. On the one hand he felt like an easy character to relate to in how he felt within his life and his thoughts about how this money could change his life, but the book lacked any exciting moments (or the moments that were meant to be exciting lacked believability) and I failed to connect with him on an emotional level and so just felt detached from things as I read.
The finding of the money did make me think about how I would react in this situation but the way the plot unfolds after the discovery of the money just felt silly to me. It’s not a wholly believable story and things are just tied up too neatly once we reach the conclusion. Overall it felt like a student’s creative writing story or a really bad straight to DVD movie. The characters just never felt fully-formed and their behaviours, specifically the reaction to the discovery of dead bodies, becoming murderers and murder cover-ups was just so cold and unbelievable and just their general demeanours throughout never made them feel like anything other than characters in a story rather than characters I could see and imagine as real people. Finders Keepers wasn’t a book for me and so is not one I will be recommending.
What would you do indeed? The premise of this storyline really makes you think. When you’re not happy with your job, when your partner works ridiculous hours, when the unpaid bills keep piling up and final notices hit you left, right and centre … when life is basically a big flamin’ pile of poo and you can’t see a way to fix things. But then suddenly, you stumble upon a fortune.
This is what happens to Noah. He works as a teacher but hates his job and is now on a sabbatical so he can write a novel. His wife is a nurse who’s spending more time at the hospital than at home because they need the money. Yet, they still fall behind on payments. One morning, Noah goes for a run and finds a car with a dead girl on the driver’s seat. Next to her is a very alluring bag full of money. Lots of money! Where did it come from? Is anyone missing it? And who’s the girl?
The story is told through two characters : Noah and his neighbour Charlie. I must say I didn’t particularly like Noah. He’s a bit of creep, as it goes, and he doesn’t exactly come up smelling like roses when we are first introduced to him. It also bothered me that he seemed perfectly okay with letting his wife work those long hours, while he pretty much sat around doing very little, staring at a blank screen or just being a perv. Charlie, on the other hand, was much more likeable and I felt for her at times, dealing with her job as a 911 operator.
Set in the unforgiving landscape of Alaska, Finders Keepers puts ordinary, normal people in not-so-normal and rather extraordinary circumstances. There are some dubious decisions, sometimes even insanely dumb ones but these are amateurs, not professionals. It’s easy to sit here and judge their actions but of course it’s completely different when you’re living it. The plot does require you to suspend belief a little bit as some things felt rather far-fetched to me but this is nonetheless an entertaining story and it had me wondering what the outcome would be.
So, what would you do? Personally, I’d take the money and run with the speed of light. Just in case, at some point in the future you don’t hear from me, toodles and it was nice knowing you all. 😉
So you find some money on the floor with no one around to claim it. What do you do in this moral dilemma? Would you take it? Should you take it?
Finders Keepers ramps up this moral dilemma by a hundred fold when Noah comes across a car accident scene where the passenger has unfortunately not survived the accident. By the looks of it, she has been dead for a while. Clearly nobody has come looking for her. Shocked at what he has come across, Noah takes a look at the scene surrounding him, only to discover a bag with money protruding from it. A GREAT DEAL of money as he soon discovers! This is exactly what he needs to dig himself out of his piling financial debt . But, can he take it? Should he dare? He dares indeed! After all, he has a wife and daughter he needs to financially support. But can he get away with it? Noah soon finds he is way in over his head as he becomes embroiled in a very sticky situation that is snowballing out of control.
The author adds characters who are flawed with jealous, greedy and manipulative personalities, adding plenty of secrets, lies, scheming and criminal behaviour to this suspenseful thriller! It will question whom you should trust in addition to questioning where your true north is where this complex moral compass is concerned!
I really enjoyed reading this thriller that highlights how one decision can alter the course of your life and of others, especially when it comes to the pursuit of money and the lengths those people will go to to get their greedy hands on it.
Many thanks to Netgalley, the author and Bookouture for an ARC in exchange for my honest and unbiased opinion.
A big bag of money + a dead girl + a man in debt = moral dilemma
This is the cornerstone of this book, Noah finds a big bag loaded with money, in the car of a dead girl, takes the money, does not report to the police and the story continues with Noah in the centre of the storm...
K. T. Finch's story deals with the moral dilemma of will we, won't we, in the face of personal problems and huge debts. All the characters are coated with dark shades of black. There is selfishness, jealousy, greed, each one is manipulative in one way or the other.
The book deals with a lot of moral issues, the characters are realistic as most are in real life. The book is a thriller with questions where Noah's perversions put me off. A bit of a slow start but had enough twists to keep me reading. I received an ARC from NetGalley and publisher Bookouture, and this is my honest and unbiased opinion.
Noah Kendall is a teacher who really wants to be a writer. His wife is a nurse, working all kinds of overtime shifts to keep their heads afloat while Noah takes a sabbatical to write. That's a small problem, because 4 young women share the house next door. Charlie Easton is one of them and although he would never cheat on his wife, if he did cheat it would be with Charlie.
Noah decides to take a long run to clear his mind, maybe clear it enough to actually write something. Deep into the woods, he finds a car ... a car with a dead woman in it.... and a bag of money. 2.2 Million dollars to be exact.
This is the moment that Noah's life changes ... in ways no one could foresee. He takes the bag of money and does not contact anyone about the dead woman.
Noah's brother in law gets into the picture, there's another death, and the money disappears. People are looking for the woman ... and the money. And now they're looking at Noah.
I thought Charlie Easton would be more prominent in the story as she is a 9-1-1 Operator. She does play a small part and the book shows a bit of what someone in that position must deal with on a daily basis. She's a good soul but after taking a particularly bad call, maybe she should be doing else?
I can't say I liked Noah and his wife overmuch. The wife seemed to be distanced from the other family members. Noah just seems to be a not-so-nice guy, but manipulated by his brother in law, who kept making things even worse.
This had an interesting concept. This is the first of a series .. and happily, I can report that all books in this series can be read in any order. There are no cliff-hangers!
I wish to thank the author for the digital copy of this book. Opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.
"Something bad is going to happen. I can just feel it. But I have no way of stopping it."
What would you do if you found 2.2 million dollars in a duffle bag alongside a frozen dead girl in a car on a snowpacked Alaskan side road?
Noah -- high school English teacher, aspiring novelist, husband to Emily and father of Ava -- decides to take it. Who will find out, right? The trouble starts almost immediately when his ex brother-in-law, Colton Hays, happens to come by and finds Noah counting the money in his home office. One thing leads to another and, NO SPOILERS, soon Noah has to wonder if his lies are going to catch up to him in a fatal way.
This was a fast-paced domestic drama/thriller told from two different viewpoints -- one is Noah's and the other is Charlie's -- a neighbor who inadvertently gets very involved with Noah's plot to keep the cash despite all that goes wrong. Noah, determined to leave his unsatisfying teaching career behind him, spends a lot of effort justifying all he does to ensure that his new-found wealth is going to fund his dreams. Basically the average family man gone rogue. Big money will do that to a person.
Although there were several times that I had to suspend my disbelief at different turns of events, I did enjoy the story and kept reading to see how this was all going to play out. Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for this e-book ARC to read and review. I'll look for other titles by this author in the future.
Basically a family guy who who is in a bit of financial bother goes out for a run and finds a crashed car with a dead girl inside (as you do). Oh yeah, there is also a bag with a shitload of money in it. The book poses the question - what would you do? Well I wouldn't even look in bag, you know, it's next to a dead body, and just call the police. But Noah compounds mistake after mistake, takes the money and gets himself into a shitload of trouble. I mean, law abiding citizens do not go about carrying over $2 million cash so what was he thinking? And this guy was qualified as a teacher - WTF? Pretty ordinary stuff.
So....you take a teacher coping with a job he hates add a wife who is struggling with her extra shifts as a Nurse she is forced to take to make ends meet...both are trying to keep up with the Neighbours.....and failing......and then you add a bag of money (2-2 million) that is found in a car with a dead girl in it and you have he basis of ‘Finders Keepers’ The story then moves on as an ex brother in law and then a neighbour ( who the main character previously has been spying on!!)!finds out what has happened and they all get entwined in a should they, shouldn’t they keep the money story with added sub plots It is a good story and I enjoyed it and has an interesting outcome and is very quick moving a fast paced It is set in Alaska and found the descriptive writing re how life is there interesting and different to how most of America is often written about So, an interesting story, well written and enjoyable
This is one of those books where you constantly keep asking yourself, What would I do in this situation. Noah has an argument with his wife Emily and storms out. While he’s out he comes across a crashed car with the body of a young woman in it. He then notices the bag on the passenger seat and finds that it contains a lot of money. He decides to go back home and hide it but while he is counting it, his ex brother in law, Colton, barges into the room and sees the money. You may think that you wouldn’t have taken the money but I think things would have been ok if it wasn’t for Colton. Things go from bad to worse and soon Noah is lying to his wife and she is becoming more and more suspicious. This book has lots of twists and turns and will have you on the edge of your seat. Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.
Noah, Emily and Ava are a family living in Alaska. Noah teaches high school English and has come to hate it. Emily is a nurse who works all kinds of overtime hours. She loves her job, but is feeling the stress of working so much when Noah has taken a six-month sabbatical to write. He is not writing. Instead, he is staring out the window at one of his female neighbors who doesn’t pull her shades.
They are in deep financial trouble. Noah bought the big, fancy house because Emily was suffering from post-partum depression after Ava’s birth and he wanted to make her happy. They also have two near new SUV’s and a host of other bills. They are overdue on their payments.
Emily walks into Noah’s study one day and notices him watching the girl next door. He has an unmistakable erection. He fumbles around trying to cover it up and tells her clumsily that it doesn’t mean anything; he was just watching. They fight. She storms out and he goes for a run.
He runs farther than he expected and comes across a car crash. It looks as though it’s been in the trees for quite a while. He is shocked to brush off the snow and find a dead girl inside. Even more surprising is the bag of money on the passenger side of the car. When he gets it home, he discovers that it totals 2.2 million dollars.
Charlie is the young woman who lives next door to Noah, Emily and Ava. She is a 9-1-1 operator and usually her calls are pretty tame, but lately they’ve been awful; murders and such.
When Noah’s former brother-in-law shows up unannounced in Noah’s study and notices all the piles of money on the floor, the reader just knows it’s downhill from there. Things go from bad to worse and the neighbor woman Charlie gets drawn into the drama.
What follows is a nightmare of events, poorly thought out plans and coincidences. This story starts out with intrigue and drama from the very beginning. It is well written and plotted. It is both exciting and action-filled. Noah is a little naïve, perhaps a little slow to recognize the consequences of his actions. He is almost a nonentity. While he states he loves his wife and children, he continued to make bad decisions that seem to oppose his statements. Wow, what a story. It should be subtitled, “The consequences of really bad decisions.” I truly enjoyed reading this novel. This is my first K.T. Finch story and I immediately went to Amazon to look for other books written by this author.
I want to thank NetGalley and Bookouture for forwarding to me a copy of this fascinating book for me to read and enjoy.
Finders Keepers by K.T. Finch gave me a new favorite fictional dilemma. Noah had major financial issues. His family really needed extra cash. Things took a dramatic turn when Noah discovered a crashed car in the woods. In the car is a dead girl with a bag full of money. This is the point at which Noah’s life completely changed.
The story is narrated through two main POVs by Noah and his neighbor Charlie. I liked Charlie and sympathized with her struggles of being a 911 operator. I can’t imagine just how stressful that job is. On the other hand, Noah was a flawed, complex character. There are moments when I sympathized with him but some of his actions made it hard to like him. The first chapters especially portrayed him as some perv and I think that influenced my perspective of him. However, I was still captivated by his narration and was so invested in finding out what he would do with the money. Throughout the story, I kept thinking about what I would have done. I guess this is part of the reason why I liked Noah’s narration even if I didn’t like his character.
The story is suspenseful especially in the first half of the book. However, I wasn’t too crazy about the turns and twists it took towards the end. I tried to suspend my disbelief but ended up rolling my eyes at a couple of the scenes. Still, I was hooked to the story to the last page. This is a fast-paced, entertaining read with an interesting premise. If you are able to suspend disbelief then you will enjoy it even more.
Finders Keepers by K.T. Finch has created a perfect book to question your morals can you battle the demons crawling through the recesses of your mind pressurising your every sense of right and wrong.
Would You? Could You? Should You? Can You?
Noah is a family man, married to Emily and father to Ava, he is taking a sabbatical to write his own novel but has become distracted by a neighbour who has moved in next door, he is mesmerized by her but has no intention of fulfilling the thoughts that run through his mind. Emily and Noah have an argument when she discovers he has been peeping on this young lady, Noah flees the home trying to outrun his debts and the uncertainty that he couldn’t explain to his wife the reason behind his behaviour, only to fall upon a car accident where the driver is deceased. Horrified by the discovery he looks around the car, his eye catches a holdall with money extruding from the top, now he is in full dilemma mode, do I report it, she’s been dead for a while, no one has been looking for her, we need the money, can I take it.
All these questions, Noah struggles to comprehend the consequences of the actions he should take, to the point he takes it home with him to try and quell his rush of adrenaline. Noah ends up becoming in embroiled in a situation he may never become free from………
What would you have done? Would your moral compass direct you to do the right thing?
K.T. Finch has written the characters with a touch of darkness, each one is flawed in a different way, there is manipulation, greed, jealousy, bolshiness all of which are apparent within each character to some degree or another. The only character I didn’t seem to have any issues with was Emily, even if she was a bit unstable to the point of her jealousy but who wouldn’t be if your husband has secrets.
Finders Keepers is a book filled with lies, secrets, moral hurdles, criminality and subterfuge, culminating in a thriller which will have you question everyone, everything and above all, question yourself.
Thank you Bookouture, K.T. Finch and Noelle Holten for an advanced readers copy of Finders Keepers to read and review in exchange for my honest unbiased opinion. Thank again to Noelle for allowing me to be part of the Blog Blitz, sorry I’m taking a bit longer but normal service will resume again by the end of the week x
In Finders Keepers we follow Noah who on a run discovers a dead girl who crashed her car. He finds a bag of money in the floorboard and his life changes forever in more ways than one. He knows he should turn it in and tell the police about the dead body, but that is just something he cannot live with. After taking the money he gets some bad karma. From his brother in law, to his neighbor, to the true owners of the money who want it back.
I enjoyed this book and my favorite aspect was the setting in Alaska. It was fun and fast. I had a few issues with it like the writing style felt like a new authors writing and it kept distracting me from enjoying the story. I also had issues with not liking any of the characters. They felt super immature for people their ages. These two things kept me from getting sucked in and loving the story. Overall I would recommend this book to people who might be new to the mystery thriller genre.
I would like to mention this disclaimer. I was sent a free copy of this for review by the publisher. That in no way affects MY opinion or review. Thank you so much to the publisher for the chance to read and review this book.
I absolutely loved this book! I devoured it within a day. Addictive. I literally could not put it down, I needed answers and the outcome! Had me on the edge of my seat and feeling sorry for poor Noah who seemed to keep finding himself in situations he should have avoided at all costs! Ouch.
A well deserved five stars from me, a must read, must buy and highly recommend. Not a story you can forget easily. If that prologue doesn’t pull you in then nothing will, gripping. Put yourself in Noah’s shoes, what would you have done?
Noah is trying to write a novel so he can become an author and stop being an English teacher and hopefully make enough money so his wife could stop working the night shift as a nurse at rhe hospital. Months have gone by and Noah hasn't written anything to his liking and the bills are piling up, all looks hopeless until he comes across a car in the woods containing a dead girl and a bag full of money. Noah believes all of his dreams will come true now, unfortunately it turns into one nightmare after another. This turned out to be quite the page turner, really enjoyed. I received a copy of this book from Netgalley for my honest review.
I thoroughly enjoyed this read. This was previously published under the title The Dead Girl. I need to know what happens next best get reading the next one :)
This is the first book written by K. T. Finch that I have had the pleasure of reading and reviewing. Judging by how much I enjoyed reading ‘Finders Keepers’, I can 100% guarantee that it certainly won’t be the last book by this author that I read. I absolutely totally and utterly loved it but more about that in a bit. It took me quite a while to warm to Noah Kendall. At first he irritated me a bit as he was rather selfish. He is a qualified teacher, who is on a sabbatical from work so that he can write a book, although his attempts to become a published author don’t appear to be working so far. He has his own little office where he goes to allegedly ‘write’ but in reality he goes into the office to spy on his neighbour, who he seems to have a crush on. He sees her getting up to all sorts. Noah seems to shut himself away and leave his wife to pick up the slack. In my opinion, his wife is far too patient and I would certainly have kicked him up the bottom a few times if I had been her. She is a nurse who works all the hours she can in a bid to try to pay off their debts, keep the wolf from the door and actually live and the thanks she gets is her husband spying on and perving over their neighbour. Noah is soon found out by his wife, who understandably is rather peeved. Noah also realises that he has to do something to bring some money in as they are drowning under debt with red letters arriving, credit cards being maxed out and no money in the bank. Noah can’t say that he is particularly looking forward to going back to being a teacher and so he has to come up with a plan. Noah seems to live in a fantasy world and at times I did wonder if he had unrealistic expectations of his own abilities. To clear his head he goes out for a rather long run. All is going well until he stumbles across a car, which has been buried under heavy snow. He opens the car door, only to find a body of a young female and a bag containing a hell of a lot of money. Noah takes the money but leaves the body in the car. Noah has mixed feelings about the money because on the one hand he knows that by rights he should report the death and hand over the bag of money to the police but on the other hand, he sees the pile of money and thinks that it could be the answer to all his problems. What will Noah decide to do? Whose money is it really? Will Noah get into any further scrapes and will he be able to get out of them? Are Noah’s family safe? Well for the answers to those questions and more you are just going to have to read the book for yourselves to find out. I picked this book up, only intending to read a couple of chapters. Thirteen chapters later and I was still reading. This author really did grab my attention from the start of page 1 and kept my attention throughout the book. I absolutely loved the writing style and the storylines. Unusually for me, I was able to finish the book in two sittings. Normally I have the attention span of a gnat but not in this case because I became seriously addicted to reading ‘Finders, Keepers’ and I just had to find out what, if anything, was going to happen to Noah. I would say that the story hits the ground running and maintains the pace throughout. I absolutely adored where the story was set and it sounds just my kind of place- cold with lots of snow. There were more twists and turns in this story than you would find in a game of Snakes & Ladders. Just when I thought that I had figured out what was going to happen and to who, I was thrown a curveball and was sent down another path entirely. ‘Finders, Keepers’ is one heck of an adrenaline fuelled rollercoaster ride following the fortunes of one family as they attempt to stay afloat. In conclusion I absolutely loved reading ‘Finders Keepers’ and I can’t wait to read more from this hugely talented author. Here’s hoping that we don’t have too long a wait in store. I wholeheartedly recommend this book and this author to other readers. The score on the Ginger Book Geek board is a well deserved 5* out of 5*.
I would like to thank NetGalley and Bookouture for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
The blurb of this novel sounded so intriguing that I had to request it even though I have a backlog of books to read and review. This book did not disappoint.
It was exciting and thrilling and one just did not know what was going to happen next. It also makes one think about the choices that one makes in life and how quickly things can get out of hand. The book was very well-written and I will be looking out for more books from this author.
Thank you to Netgalley, the author and the Publisher, Bookouture for this review copy which was given in exchange for an honest review. Also thank you to Noelle from Bookouture for organising the blog tour and offering me a space on it!
Noah Kendall is in debt up to his eyeballs. He loves his family but with the mortgage, bills and mouths to be fed, he doesn’t know what to do about it. After a row with his wife he goes off out for a run to clear his head. Before he knows it, he’s knee deep in the Alaskan snow and he comes across a crashed car. Inside, sitting in the driver’s seat is a young woman. She’s obviously dead and has been there for many weeks, frozen in the Alaskan weather. However, in the passenger footwell, Noah finds a large bag filled with money, and lots of it. It’s enough to sort all his problems, and it’s just waiting for him to take it. What would you do?
My first book by this author. For information, this book is set in Alaska. The synopsis for this one sounded great, so there was never any doubt that this would be put on the ‘to be read’ list! It has also been previously released as The Dead Girl, so double check before you read it that you haven’t already!
I loved this one! I thought it had a really strong plot and flowed really nicely. The story is told from the perspective of Noah and Charlie, his next door neighbour. All of the characters were interesting but none of them were very likeable to be perfectly honest! Obviously the book is all about honestly (or lack of it), and it’s unbelievable to see how many dishonest people there are!
I did initially wonder how Charlie fitted into the story, but all becomes clear as the book moves on. Charlie is a 911 despatcher and you get to see what she has to deal with in her job, which to be honest sounds awful! Charlie comes across as a ‘good’ person with high morals, but following a particular harrowing day at work, this does appear to change her opinion on things. Noah obviously has a thing for Charlie, having a clear view of her room from his office window, but whether anything happens between them….well you will have to read it to see.
The main story of the book is what would you do if you found a big bag of money, and nobody knew it was there. This was definitely an interesting theme for a book causing mixed discussions within my house! My husband, shamefully, would have taken it and had a lovely extravagant life! I would have given the idea serious consideration but ultimately my conscience would have gotten the better of me and I would have handed it all in the authorities! We get to see what Noah did, and get to find out whether his decision was the right one.
I found the story to be fast paced, it held my interest and had me on the edge of my seat! Like I said, it also provoked interesting discussions with my (immoral!!) husband, and a book that can do that will always be a winner! I enjoyed everything about this book, and whilst I wondered how it was going to end, I thought the ending was well done and finished it off nicely. It was full of twists and turns meaning you weren’t quite sure what was going to happen next! Yes, okay there were some parts of the book that maybe weren’t needed or I thought ‘that’s not right’, but to be honest the pace of the book was going so fast that it didn’t give me chance to dwell on these before we moved on.
A very enjoyable read which I would highly recommend. The big question is “What would you do?”
Thank you Netgalley for the opportunity to preview Finders Keepers by KT Finch. Noah is a typical man - he is a teacher, has a family, a house, a mortgage. Charlie is a 20 something young woman - she has a dead end job as a 911 operator, a grandmother in assisted living that she helps, and a sometimes boyfriend. They are neighbors in a remote Alaska town. Noah lives in the house next to Charlie. Although Noah loves his wife and child, he also likes to watch Charlie from his bedroom window. They don't know each other except to say hello, but their lives are about to intersect. Noah is jogging one day and he stumbles upon an abandoned car - there is a dead girl and 2.2 million dollars in it. Noah decides quickly to keep the money and starts to count it when he gets home, but his brother in law, Colton, bursts in and now he knows about the money. And he wants a cut too. Charlie has noticed some odd things going on at Noah's house because she watches Noah too. When Colton hides his share of the money, Charlie follows him and then she finds the money and takes it. Meanwhile, there are others looking for the dead girl and for 2.2 million dollars. Colton thinks Noah took his money - Noah is confused because he didn't take Colton's money until he finds Colton's share under Charlie's porch. And then Colton goes missing, the cops are talking to Noah, and Noah discovers he is way over his head and he can't go back in time. It's too late - how can he keep the money, stay out of jail, and keep bad guys from killing him all at the same time! This is fast moving, breath taking, and suspenseful - How one decision impacts the lives of others - how money can change lives or ruin them. Murder, mayhem, and mystery surround this really fun book. Liked this one alot. RECOMMEND..
Noah hated his teaching job. His wife hated working such long hours and they both hated constantly worrying about money. When Noah is out for a run, trying to forget that his attempts at writing are going badly and that his wife has seen him looking across to the rather pretty girl next door whilst she was undressing! He wanders off the usual tracks. On a deserted sideroad buried in a snowbank is a crashed car. Inside is a young girl. It is unclear whether she died in the crash or froze to death but she has definitely been dead for some time. Noah is all set to phone the police when he sees a duffle bag in the car-a duffle bag full of money! This could be the way out he & his family are needing. Well what would you do?
The story is told by Noah & also by Charlie- the girl next door who is a 911 operator & is finding it very stressful. I liked Charlie a lot more than I liked Noah, although I did warm towards him as he got more & more out of his depth!
Like most stories it is necessary to ignore how implausible things are & there was quite a bit of ignoring needed! However it was still a good read. Thanks to Netgalley & the publishers for letting me read & review this book.
This was an intriguing story. Not only do you see what money does to people, but you also see what a secret does to one individual.
Noah may not have been rich, but he had everything he needed. Sure his wife hated her how many hours she worked at her job, but he hated his. They did what they had to in order to provide a good life for their little girl.
One night while clearing his head Noah is suddenly faced with a choice. A choice that could either better his life or destroy it. What happens next are the events that follow his decision. Through twists and turns you see how Noah handles everything that he's brought upon himself.
An original story told well. Reminded me of the old-skool pulp classics like The Golden Touch by James Hallums. The shooting of the officer however, didn't ring true for me. From a procedural aspect it didn't feel authentic and Noah didn't show any emotion, which I found strange. I struggled to connect to the characters as I was unsure throughout who was supposed to be the antagonist and who was the hero. Having said that, the story kept me wanting to read on and as I've enjoyed K T Finch's previous titles, I will continue to read this author's work.
A good book to read about someone who finds A LOT of money & what happens, or gets done with it... It delves into the good & the bad things that can be done or happen in a situation that I'm sure many of us think would be life changing. Life changing good, or life changing bad? It could go either way & this book shows the reader different options & happenings. I love the way the author takes us through some of them both good & bad. If you're looking for a good book with twists & turns pick up this book & enjoy. I think you'll find it as enjoyable as I did.
This book did keep on the edge of the seat but it's not as exciting as a thriller novel I thought. The storyline is good and it ain't boring at all.
I liked the character of Charlie who is an honest and brave woman. On the other hand, I found the protagonist, Noah as a dumb and stupid character. But as the story progress, luck has a different fate written for him.
It was an interesting concept, a dilemma. What would you do? However, I found the things that the main character went through were rather unbelievable. And what made his ex-brother-in-law go so off the deep end? In my opinion, it was never explained. Unfortunately, I found the main character difficult to like.
Thanks to the publisher and Net Galley for giving me the opportunity to review this book. Starts off slow, but ramps up rather quickly. Makes you think about "what you would do" in this kind of situation. Gave it three stars which is just okay in my ratings.
