GURU

REVIEW EXCERPT - ""It is a credit to Inigo's skill as a writer that I was immediately drawn into a story that never let me down."" When Tobias Inigo was asked to describe his new book, GURU, he quietly explained why it feels like something beyond a work of fiction. ""GURU is more than a new age visionary novel; it is a book that came to me in such a powerful way that I believe it will speak to readers on many levels. I can best describe the process as a form of mental dictation. The words came to me so intensely and so quickly that it was a challenge to keep pace. While I understand that the idea of something so powerful as GURU being written in such an unusual way might be difficult to accept, that is how it happened."" Taking the reader on a gripping life and death journey, GURU is the intense tale of Andrew Cummings, an exhausted and careworn corporate nobody, whose life is transformed through meeting an enigmatic spiritual teacher. Certain books appear when the world needs them. GURU is one such book.

Tobias Inigo is a creative writer, artist, illustrator and unapologetic dreamer.

"I love creative endeavors. Illustrating, writing, fine art, etc. They all come together in many of my books. I began adding illustrations to my works - even those that are not children's books - as a nod to the beautiful books of the late 1950s and the 1960s. So many books from those decades have wonderful title pages, chapter pages and covers illustrated by well known artists of the period. That has inspired me to bring my visual art and written art together."
I love hearing from fellow writers and artists.

Tobias Inigo's work first came to my attention when an Instagram connection raved about his art and his writing. That piqued my curiosity so I ordered his most recent book. A treat was in store for me.

From the first paragraph, I relaxed in good hands. The writing was deft and sure, rich in detail, yet leaving space for the reader to ponder the layers of meaning.

The book's hero, Andrew Cummings, is a lost soul, a grey corporate cog when he meets a spiritual teacher. His unhappy, unsatisfying journey through life takes on a mystical dimension that will change Andrew's trajectory.

But this is no straightforward, simplistic path. On his way to spiritual understanding, Andrew undergoes some terrifying, puzzling - yet ultimately soul-opening - events.

As a spiritual skeptic, I was not sure how convinced I would be by a "new age visionary novel". It is a credit to Inigo's skill as a writer that I was immediately drawn into a story that never let me down. Inigo's signature art, at the start of each chapter, was a bonus, as was the beautiful design of the book. But it was the story that kept me reading this intriguing book.
