Divine the secrets of domestic bliss in this tongue-in-cheek tarot kit, including a 78-card tarot deck and instruction book.
Designed in the style of a vintage recipe box complete with separators and three recipes, The Housewives Tarot includes a 1950s-inspired tarot deck filled with images of dinnerware (Pentacles), cutlery and sewing kits (Swords), martini glasses (Cups), mops and brooms (Wands), and much more.
Perfect for beginners and seasoned tarot readers alike, this fun and nostalgic set includes an instruction book for how to interpret all the cards of the major and minor arcana, helpful advice on giving a reading, and recommended layouts in the shape of a martini glass, clothesline, and more.
The Housewives Tarot will empower you to find your own answers, make your own fortune, and motivate you to reach for the stars.
This is only for those with a sense of humor. The deck is so well done and hilarious. The box resembles a recipe box with dividers and the intro published on the deck "Imagine the celebrated "Ryder Deck" infused with the spirit of Leave It to Beaver, and the result is The Housewives Tarot ... with illustrations of martini glasses (cups), mops and brooms (wands), Duncan Hines chocolate cake (the Devil), wood-paneled station wagons (the Chariot), bathroom scales (Judgment), and other 1950s iconography" sums it up. The deck stays true to the concept of each card, so it is actually easy to read from for those of us with a bit of irreverence. I highly recommend.
Can’t wait to get this one! I love it because it has original artwork from the 50’s era, without modern day sarcastic comments about the time. Many of the cards and accessories found in gift stores now have ads from the 50’s, but with really negative commentary. It seems today that everything that represents that era is polluted with modern day negative interpretations. This one managed to avoid that. What do most people nowadays know about that time period anyways? I don’t think that the sentiments back then were that cynical. I think that they believed in the smiling faces of those ads. Although, one of my aunts didn’t approve of my interest in tarot cards. My mom didn’t really care; I think she thought it was a phase.
Quick impressions: Overall, I really like this deck. It reads well, and it has a cheeky and playful sense of humor. I do recommend it, especially for folks who enjoy retro and vintage art.
(Detailed review with photos available on my blog soon.)
I have to say this Tarot comes across as more kitsch than anything else. But I loved seeing the pictures on Mrs. B's Facebook page. So when the opportunity came up to review the deck for Quirk, I jumped at the chance. Ok, I begged. lol
I have to say, it's the most accurate Tarot deck I've used. I think part of it is the imaging. Look at the Devil card - Devil's Food Cake. Every image screams 1950s-1960s household...not just housewives. It's loaded with vintage pop culture that many of us will understand more easily than the images that are more...how do I put this..artsy-fartsy? ;-)
I'm saying, in this modern world, this deck is fun and it works. I've done simple readings, just past-present-future, and each one has been accurate and eye opening.
I also adore the recipe box the cards come in. There are actual recipes, and separators for the deck between the Major and Minor Arcana and of course the instruction booklet. There are real recipes included, and the layouts included in the booklet are housewife style. Remember the 3 card reading I just mentioned? It calls to place the cards sideways and renamed it "The Neapolitan." There's also "The Dinette" which looks like a place setting at your dinner table. If nothing else, it's the most unique deck and set of instructions that I've ever seen in the world of Tarot. And I'm one to spend ages in that section at my local pagan store.
Extremely useful oracle. Helps to get in touch with your soul by offering both humorous and accurate lanes of meditation over the matters you question yourself about. It is a precious spiritual tool I found there. And I often use it.
This deck is absolutely amazing. The artwork is phenomenal and the accompany book is so clever. The cherry on top is the recipe box they come in. My only complaint is that the cards kind of stick together in chunks. I have a bit of trouble shuffling them.
