I guess this book is a good reminder of the many nuances of the cold war era, but reading this book in 2011, I found it somewhat antequated. The early info about the characters as olympic-type athletes was more confusing than helpful. And the notion that a single "programmer" could control all the nuclear bombs in the US was somewhat absurd and, yes, that would have been frightening. I would have put this book aside and never finished it, but I kept hoping for some redeeming feature. It never came.
