***SEQUEL TO THE AWARD-WINNING CHILDREN OF THE FIFTH SUN*** ***WINNER 2018 HOLLWOOD BOOK FESTIVAL SCI FI CATEGORY***
SHE THOUGHT THERE WAS NOTHING STRONGER THAN A MOTHER'S BOND. SHE WAS WRONG.
Fifteen thousand years ago, the knowledge bringers—an amphibious, non-humanoid species known as the Huahuqui—came after a great global flood, gifting humans with math, science and civility. We killed them all.
Seventy years ago, we found one of their corpses preserved in ice and eventually created a clone, named K’in. Our governments squabbled over the creature and we killed that, too.
Now, a sinkhole in Siberia has opened revealing new secrets and humans may once again have a chance to prove we deserve the gifts the Huahuqui bestowed.

Freya Nilsson has spent the last five years trying to forget her role in the Huahuqui cloning program. Instead, she hid her son, KJ, from the regimes and agencies who she believed would exploit him for the powers he acquired through his father’s bond with K’in.
An innocent trip to help KJ understand his abilities results in the global conspiracy she fought to bury exploding back to life. Chased by new foes, and hounded to put the needs of the world first, all Freya can think of is protecting KJ—at all costs.

Children Of the Fifth Sun:Echelon by Gareth Worthington is a very suspenseful, action packed, and outstanding book that I enjoyed from beginning to end! I love this species of life that is bonding with the children! It is heartwarming but terrifying of what the government is going to do...never good things! Great job!
Another fast-paced, page turner with action, intrigue, and conspiracy. A must read for any sci-fi fan or mystery reader. The characters pop, the action is top notch, and the storyline flows without missing a beat. A great installment in the series. It's a wild ride!
Gareth Worthington does his research in theories and mythologies, while many of the locales are real. I can tell when an author delves deep into the subject of his book, because if find it easy to get lost it in the world he creates.
We start out with a Titanic like sinking and I am off and running to find out the how and why of it. I love the instantaneous hook!
At the age of five, Freya’s son, KJ, has dreams of a sinkhole and eyes looking out at him. I see an adventure coming, and after the wildly amazing Book I, Children of the Fifth Sun, I anticipate trouble, lots of trouble. Gareth Worthington’s vivid imagination and creative writing make the world a spectacular place to visit.
Kids will be kids, but KJ is special.
Catherine is a reporter who will do anything to chase the story. She is aggressive, determined. I wonder if she is being helped getting to the sinkhole, or is she being used?
The creatures, everyone wants them, but they all have ulterior motives.
Lucy, the Secretary of State, knows what has to be done and lays it all on the line to do it. Johnathon was the only person she trusted and she called him for help. He knows all the secrets.
Benjamin, Freya’s Godfather comes to her aid and is determined to make sure she gets whatever she needs to accomplish her mission.
Gareth Worthington is such a creative writer, the characters are well developed and even the critters have their distinct personalities. I am stuck to the story like glue to paper. I fret, I worry, how can this possibly end on a good note, with all the politics, greed and need to know what makes everything tick?
Echelon – an old global surveillance system, probably not even being watched. It definitely comes in play in a very important way.
I love the conspiracy, the rogues, the enemy is my friend..and Stu, that guy at Menwith…
Children of the Fifth Sun by Gareth Worthington is thought provoking and scary. It raises moral and ethical questions that are frightening. I love that the characters were willing to sacrifice everything, put there lives on the line, to do the right thing. Are we learning bad from them or are they learning good from us?
I'm working on writing my review now. It will be posted here after it goes live on my blog, which will be around or after the book's release date (I have not decided yet).
I will say that while I did not read the first book in this series, I didn't feel completely lost in this book, even at the beginning, although I'm sure some of the relationships and whatnot would be more meaningful to me had I read the first book first.
How to Say Vodka🍸 In Six Languages Changing Human History.
Kelly Junior👨 is born with special abilities, he can read minds, predict events with accuracy, and manipulate people and animals. He is only a five year old boy, yet his brain is that of a man, a genius. His mental abilities are still growing.
A seemingly bottomless sinkhole has been found in Siberia. It's perfectly round and black inside, no light penetrates. All of the local children👫 from the closest native village have already been drawn to it and have fallen in.
Freya, Kelly Jr's mother, has traveled to Siberia with him to look at the hole. Is there something super natural about it? The same day Freya and Kelly Jr👨 arrive, the missing children👫 start coming back to the native village. Each one is accompanied By a Huahuqui👾, an alien being! The Huahuqui👾 are cloned, and were thought to be totally destroyed by The American and Chinese governments years ago, yet here they are! Have the governments been hiding the creatures👾 in Siberia this whole time? Are The Huahuqui👾 bonding to The children👫 because they are pure, or because they can be easily manipulated?
The back and forth jumping around to different locations and myriads of different Kharacters is making me Krazy! It reads like a hacked up movie with Konfusing Krazy Kuts all the time. The book ends in a Kliffhanger, too!
Ever since I've picked up a copy of the first Children of the Fifth Sun book, I was hooked on this book and its characters. There is something special about this trilogy (this is the second book of the planned trilogy), that when you start reading it, you feel like you are there with the characters. You also feel some sort of connection with the characters, or maybe you're just bonding with a huahuqui, LOL (I personally love Freckles!)
I'm immensely impressed by the author's amount of research that went into this book. What other book can you read where you can learn something from, have it be a work of science fiction, action, alternative history, etc.? Well, you're guaranteed to get that in a Gareth Worthington book!
I've read The Echelon twice, and honestly, the second time around, I was even more eager to read it. It was like coming back to an old friend, and there was certain comfort that this book brought me while I was reading it, even though the scenes were tough but I was happy to be there reading about them.
I love this series. Children of the Fifth Sun was the most intriguing sci-fi stories I've read in a long time and the second book, Echelon, is no different. Worthington knows how to craft a deeply moving tale that grabs your attention and won’t let go.
The second book, Freya and Kelly Junior hear about a bottomless sinkhole and missing children in Siberia, and they go to investigate. The missing children with their "Companions", the Huahuqui, a new race adapted from the first book come out of the hole and they are bonded to the creatures.
This is a heartwarming book, but a lot of things happen. People are afraid of the government and what they plan to do with these bonded pairs. Gareth Worthington is such a creative writer, the characters are well developed and even the bonded creatures have their distinct personalities. I was intrigued all the way to the end. This series is so different from any other sci-fi series I have read. As with the first book, this one is fast paced and exciting all the way to the end
I love this series. Children of the Fifth Sun was one of the most intriguing stories I've read in a long time and this second installment, Echelon, is no different. Mixing myth with real science, legitimate intrigue, and bombastic action, Worthington knows how to craft a deeply moving tale that grabs you by the throat an refuses to let go. With a knack for consistently producing well researched and meticulously crafted stories worth every moment of your precious time, Dr. Worthington has proven time and again that he is one of the very best story tellers out there.
Gareth is on fire! He just keeps getting better. I look for tension and conflict in a novel. I wait for it to happen, to hit me in the gut (because I learn to care about the characters, so it does turn into a gut punch), and then my empathetic muscle is taxed as we hurtle along the rollercoaster of emotions, all the while I'm cheering on Gareth's characters to win. Man, this guy is in my wheelhouse as an author. Write more, write faster, Mr. Worthington, and I'll keep reading.
In the second book of the series, Children of the fifth sun, Freya and Kelly Junior hear about a bottomless sinkhole and missing children in Siberia. They go to investigate. There, the missing children with their "Companions", the Huahuqui, a new race, adapted from the first in book 1. come out of the hole. They are bonded to the creatures. As soon as KJ sees them, he too bonded with one of them. That made the book heartwarming, but still, lots of things do happen. Freya is afraid, that she might lose him, but in the end, she is helping the creatures to escape from the clutches of the government. Will they succeed? I loved already book one, and i love that one. Amazing read. Enjoyed it very much. Loved the characters. Loved the book. Loved K'in from the first book, the gentle alien, or was it an alien? with Kelly and Freya. It was so different from all the other sci-fi books I have read. Sci-fi in it's best.
: I will admit i’m not too big on scifi books, but this blew me out of the water. Kta so so so good. If i had seen this in a store, i may have just passed it by, but since i didn’t i really did enjoy reading it. I felt like i was in the story at sometimes and thats what really made me enjoy reading this book. I really hope you all enjoy reading the book as well. Stay tuned for another review for book one. I read em backwards, but thats ok.
The Huahuqui are an alien race that has tried to help humans throughout time. But what do they get in return? They are hunted, experimented on, and killed. But they still show up to help us. Freya is back from the first book and has a five year old son; Kelly Jr. KJ is a special boy because of the exposure of his father to the Huahuqui. Freya has been on the run and keeping KJ safe from the testing the she knows the government will want to perform on him.
KJ might be five but he has the mind of a genius man. He has some special abilities and has been having visions of a bottomless pit in Siberia. Freya does whatever she can to get him to the pit. But they are not the only ones looking for it. It seems all the local kids in the area have disappeared into the pit. But when Freya get there, all the kids return along with a bonded Huahuqui. When KJ sees them he ends up bonded too.
I really enjoyed this sequel. It follows the first book perfectly and lets you hit the ground running. KJ is a special kid and I can understand Freya doing everything to protect him, especially after the Huahuqui that she was around was killed. Of course you are on the edge of your seat trying to figure out what was going on, who was doing what, and wondering who is lying to get their own advantage.
This is a great series and one I recommend checking out. Of course it has one heck of a cliff hanger ending and now I can’t wait to get my hands on the next book.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. I voluntarily chose to read and post an honest review.
I really loved book one, so when book two was available to review, I quickly jumped at the chance…and I was NOT disappointed! I recommend reading book one first. There is a ton of backstory that will help make everything come together for you.
The characters are awesome. Freya is pretty badass, and I love reading her story. The cast of characters is pretty broad, but I was able too keep up with them and each person felt real.
The plot is fast paced and exciting. As was with the first book, I’m obsessed with the world building in this book. It is such a unique world and a fun story. I highly recommend checking this one out!
*I received a copy of this book as part of a blog tour. All opinions are my own.*
