Carl Weber's Kingpins

Carl Weber's Kingpins: The Bronx Lib/E

Rate this book
Family secrets, power, money, fame, and love are the ties that bind in this emotionally charged street tale.

Antonio Roberts and Paige Tillary are from vastly different backgrounds, so when they meet and fall in love, it won't be easy.
Antonio, born of an affair between a beautiful actress and a notorious crime boss, lost his mother to drugs and was forced to navigate foster care and survive on the streets of the Bronx. He is ignored by his father, the infamous head of a powerful crime syndicate, and his half-brothers are living the life Antonio used to dream about. Antonio has turned his struggles into a career in the NBA, but when a devastating injury sidelines his basketball career and he finds out he has been duped out of millions by his best friend, Antonio is forced to turn to the father who never claimed him.
Paige came from money. Private schools, trips around the world, and extravagant shopping sprees were all part of her upbringing. Her father is a well-respected politician who is not happy when his daughter falls in love with a man who represents everything the senator despises. But Paige's father harbors many secrets of his own, including one that will soon rock his family to the core.
In spite of their own marital issues, Paige's parents try to exert pressure on her to leave Antonio. She lets love guide her, and despite her parents' threats to disinherit her, she marries Antonio anyway. When secrets, lies, and ties to a dangerous criminal underworld cause their opposing worlds to collide, the young couple is torn between their love for one another and their competing family loyalties.

The book was real interesting until the end. There was too many holes and unanswered questions. Things would happen and it would jump to next situation without ending.

This book doesn’t have an ending. Good story with lots of unanswered questions. Waste of a read. The book never made it to any point.

Another good kingpins book. I thought the story was actually good, however I felt Antonio's character was a bit on the weak side in the beginning. Paige's character was weak to by allowing her mother to control her growing up and after she married. I didn't feel she was able to stand up to her mom by putting her ass in her place. Michaela was not Paige's friend because she had always seem to be jealous by wanting whatever Paige had but felt she had to have top notch. Going through all that her marriage had actually blowed up in her face in front of her peers. I may have given some spoilers in the review, but the story actually picked up when Antonio begin to grow some balls, however those 2 brothers of his were unbelievable. I thought Emil was using his sons to control them. Now there seems to be a second book after this one because the story had no ending.

This was going good for awhile then it kinda went left. The whole book was like a back story to the kingpins part as they didn't come in until close to the end.
When he finds out or rather realizes that his so called best friend got him for all his money & he went to work for his father that was running a corporate business, Antonio finds himself dealing in drugs instead of a legit operation.
It's so many loose ends with this story. Seems like a part 2 is likely.

This entry into the kingpin series was noneventful. It focused on Paige and Antonio and the issues that came into play during their marriage. There were several missed opportunities to inject life into the story and characters. As the only person who could be considered a kingpin was a bit player and hardly mentioned. This story was a miss for me due to poor execution.

I am starting to think that the author just gets tired of writing and just ends the book like yup right here with no real ending at all. This book was a waste of time.

By far my favorite kingpin book! Well written and I like how it didn’t immediately start with the life but showed how and why he got in to it. Didn’t really like the ending but rest was good.

I think the writers were bored. Tired plot. Predictable murders. I will leave this book in the library at my job.
