This is a really useful book if it's used in certain ways. Beginners could use it, but it will probably be discouraging. Beginners who already read music and have some knowledge of Music theory would have a better chance. Otherwise the material presented could be kind of overwhelming. Better to go through something like the Hal Leonard Guitar Method by Will Schmid first.

That said, this is an excellent book for anyone who already plays guitar and wants to learn how to play the chordal type accompaniments used in folk/blues/rock. There are examples on how to do everything that's presented. The DVD also has each exercise and song played by Andrew DuBrock.

What is brilliant about this book is Andrew explains the main chord progressions used in many songs and how to play them. Really, this book is like the missing link in how to play guitar chords to songs!

I also like that everything is also presented in standard notation and in TAB.
