SUMMARY Of How to Change Your Mind: What the New Science of Psychedelics Teaches Us About Consciousness, Dying, Addiction, Depression, and Transcendence By Michael Pollan

Rate this book
In the book “ How To Change Your Mind ”, Michael Pollan traces the eventful history of psychedelics, from Hofmann’s first encounter with LSD to the first surge of research into the field, to the widespread abuse and misuse followed by a federal government ban, and the recent resurrection of psychedelic research. Psychedelics are probably the world’s most controversial class of drugs and in this book, he narrates how they got their reputation.

Pollan is careful to correct the popular conclusion that Timothy Leary was the beginning and end of psychedelics. The author’s depth of research is obvious as he chronicles the lives and contributions of scientists, therapists, religious leaders, and countless others who have a place in the psychedelics story.

Relief for the suffering of addiction and depression

This summary indicates that chemicals found in the natural world are available to us to assist humankind in finding its true nature without the restrictions of fear and ego. The research evidence indicates great potential and the chemicals should be made available immediately to the general public and particularly those who are suffering.

Interesting. The summary is full of typos, but I wanted to get an understanding of the new science of psychedelics in a short amount of time. I hope that psychedelics will fulfill their promise in medicine and spiritual practice. I may eventually read the whole book. I got the summary on kindle unlimited, so I read it for free and can exchange for something else.

Interesting, thought provoking. Michael Pollan bravely speaks about topics that are taboo.

Not what I was expecting. It might be a good book, if I were aiming at that topic. A little too academic considering what I was hoping for.
