About the author

Dr. Devdutt Pattanaik (born December 11, 1970) is an Indian physician turned leadership consultant, mythologist and author whose works focus largely on the areas of myth, mythology, and also management. He has written a number of books related to Hindu mythology, including Myth = Mithya: A Handbook of Hindu Mythology, a novel, The Pregnant King, and Jaya: An Illustrated Retelling of the Mahabharata (2010).
He is the Chief Belief Officer of Future Group, one of India’s largest retailers, bringing the wisdom of Indian mythology into Indian business, especifically in human resource management. He also writes a column for the newspaper MID DAY.
He has also written a novel based on a tale from the Mahabharata titled 'The Pregnant King' published by Penguin Books India

Very interesting and informative.
Read it after or before reading "Am I a Hindu" by Ed Vishwanathan.
Both books will complement each other.
I read the book in almost a day.
It has small parts with yoga and bhagvad geeta.
And good parts of stories of Krishna as a kingmaker, and Krishna as Young romantic lover, what is actual love,,, Rama, Christianity, and Jainism, and a part of Greek Myths. Interesting stories!
A part also talks about what Khajuraho temples and Kamasutra is actually about.
A good read for someone who wants to know a lot about India's culture and Mythology, a good small travel companion.
Will surely make you feel good about knowing little about most of the things a common man doesnt knows.
Could also make you better versed in our culture than your parents or grandparents.

The book is highly recommended for the curious and spiritual minds, Devdutt has answered general questions with a huge bulk of knowledge he has. His answers invoke the respect for Hinduism and the make us understand the depth of Puranas. You will get to know things like "Son's of Lord Krishna" "Jesus Travel to kashmir" "Story Of Buddha". I liked one sentence in the book about Buddhism "One who sees life properly is the Buddha"
The explanation of different types of marriage's and the need of marriages is also wonderful. Overall the book is a must read
Yes, there are instances where you might be hurt when he tries not to stamp the evidence of hinduism like the findings of Dwarka City by ASI and chooses to avoid.
Except that , i recommend the book.

It's a decent book collection with easy going , Q&A-style conversations on mythology, offering insights into topics like Jainism, which I knew little about, and different types of marriages. It also explains why it's called Rama Rajya while Krishna is known as Dwarkadhish. The book presents simplified versions of mythological stories, but I wish it had been more detailed with better context. I'm also not a fan of the Q&A format.
