Still the most famous match in chess history. !! Harry Golombek makes a jest on page 122. “There were only two things in the auditorium Bobby Fischer did not protest against. One was the pickled herring. The other was the Jacques chess sets”.

Bobby won anyway. To most chess players that isn’t a spoiler. Harry’s epilogue is very sad. He anticipates Fischer will defend his title with ease. He does describe him as “unpredictable “. Rather like Boris Johnson as Prime Minister of the UK Bobby was ruined by internal self made issues. When Bobby achieved the summit he did not defend it. Instead he left the stage like the lightning bolt of the nineteenth century , Paul Morphy. They both played only briefly and left the stage to lesser talents.
