Rate this book
This is the true story of the life and events of Antonio Carbone the son of two Sicilian peasants who emigrated to the UK in the late 1950`s together with their five children.

The book is an amalgamation of three stories. The life and events of Antonio as he stumbles through early childhood with no support in an ever growing family, to eventually escapes the family home in his early twenties and begin his adult life.

The story of Guido, who passed away unexpectedly at the age of 52.
Guido`s story was written for the benefit of Guido`s young son at the request of Camila his widowed wife.
These sections are very relevant to Antonio`s story as Antonio and Guido shared many of the same experiences together.
The third story is a story of hilarity in the conservatory section during one day in the DIY life of Antonio.
The stories describe the occasional episode of crass stupidity by individuals as Antonio struggles through early childhood in his attempts to fit in and be normal in the difficult environment of his parents Sicilian peasant attitudes and the British way of life.

Antonio eventually sees the country of his birth at the age of fourteen after a long train journey to Sicily gives him a glimpse of freedom and a world to explore.
The rest of the book describes some of his adult life and hilarious work experiences with a description. It concludes with the fate of the rest of his family.
