When Priscilla’s lighthouse is set ablaze, she launches her own arson investigation. Her search for the arson takes her all over Martha’s Vineyard—and directly into the path of danger—before she finally discovers the shocking truth.
Several fires are happening in town and Priscilla sees her lighthouse on fire. Luckily it can be repaired and didn’t hurt her house. She finds out the fires are being started using oily rags. She starts putting together the pieces to figure out who did it and almost dies.
Someone sets the lighthouse on fire. There's an arsonist loose on the island. Priscilla tries to track the miscreant. Meanwhile, someone is trying to get more housing built on the island. There's a bit on how the island treat newcomers. Of course, this was published before some illegal immigrants were flown there, and the news showed us first hand how the island welcomes newcomers.
This book is different in that Gerald, Priscilla's paramour, doesn't really make an appearance. There's no romance at all.
Since these books are written by different authors, I've enjoyed some books in the series more than others. This one was very good--fast-paced and even scary, as there is a fire bug on the Vineyard, and Priscilla gets an up close experience when the lighthouse is set on fire. (Not a spoiler, the burning lighthouse is on the cover.) Plenty of suspects. Was also delighted to meet Joan's son and daughter-in-law. I must say I wish these people were MY friends.
This has been one of my favorites in the series. It was a little more suspenseful and I didn’t guess the whodunit. One thing I love about the series is I seem to learn something from each book. Priscilla faced her biggest peril and there was a nice community spirit in this book.
I finished this book a few hours ago. It was very good. The lighthouse was set on fire though in this one. Priscilla was also tried to be killed but was rescued because of of her actions that she had done before had. I did very much enjoy reading this book and this series.
Someone is starting fires on the island, Priscilla's lighthouse being one of them. How did they get in, as the lighthouse is locked and why would anyone want to burn the lighthouse? Also, the method used is ingenious. Soak rags in oil, set them in the lighthouse and as the temperature rises the rags self ignite.
In addition, a developer is trying to buy up property to build a hotel. The owner of the property is up against the wall. He doesn't really want sell the property, but it is in sad shape and they don't have the money to fix it. Plus, it is in a historic district so what they can do to fix it is restricted.
Once again, we have another fun installment in the adventures of Priscilla Latham Grant and the happenings on Martha's Vineyard. This time Priscilla's lighthouse is the victim of an arsonist. Priscilla's property isn't the only victim. Many buildings around town are being burned to the ground. Can Priscilla get to the bottom of the mystery before any more town buildings go up in smoke?
This struck a great chord after the debacle of the last book (for me). I felt like I was back with familiar characters. Readers wanting an offering centered around the Fourth of July will like this.
