From seashore to mountain peak, the wild, untended blossoms of Washington flourish throughout the growing season. This easy-to-use guide by the late Chess Lyons is loaded with brilliant color photographs and complete descriptions of nearly 500 species.
Chester ("Chess") P. Lyons (1915-1998) was an avid outdoorsman, naturalist and film maker of natural history subjects. Chess obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in forest engineering from the University of British Columbia in 1939, and began his career with the BC Forest Service.
Following his retirement, Chess enthusiastically pursued many outdoor projects as a lecturer, photographer, author, and film producer (most notably, the CBC television program Klahanie, the Great Outdoors). He also established the Golden Eye World Travel company, which expanded his subjects for film and photography. Chess was the founding father of the BC Museum Association.
This has helped me to learn about the flowers I'm taking photos of in my area. It's been very helpful and even possibly saved me since I almost picked some posion hemlock to sit on our picnic table while camping at Fort Worden State Park. Wish the book was larger and had more listings.
