This wonderful collection of 101 Snowflakes makes it possible to have a blizzard of beautiful snowflakes using bedspread-weight crochet cotton and a steel crochet hook. If you have never crocheted with thread and a find hook before, a snowflake is a good first project. They are fun to do, make great package tie-ons and are easily stiffened for a crisp look.
I tried five of these patterns and I ended up frogging them all. They were overcrowded with stitches and would not lay flat when I blocked them (yes, I did use to recommend hook sizes for each snowflake).
I would say most of the pretty and unique snowflakes are on the cover. The rest are of the "spider web" and "6 sided star" variety. I, on the other hand, prefer snowflakes that work off of individual spokes/arms.
