Three Days In Heaven

Rate this book
After a heart attack, lawyer Tony Stanford finds himself not in this world, but on a heavenly golf course.

Not ready to believe he is dead, his wife, best friends and the doctors work against time to prove to the hospital board he's not really gone.

Even with its religious themes, Three Days In Heaven is a story a person of any faith can enjoy. Open-heart surgery, dying, and meeting up with God all seem like serious topics, but the book deals with them in a lighthearted and believable way.

Our main character, Tony Stanford, has lived a hectic life which finally catches up with him. Although the hospital equipment tells everyone around him he is dead, there is something sinister going on.
His wife and doctor friends receive strange text messages - supposedly from him. What the hell (Oops! Sorry, God) is going on?!
Meanwhile, Tony finds himself in the afterlife, on a golf course of all places, knocking a ball around with God, who wishes to be known as Frank. Moses puts in an occasional appearance, as do some of Tony’s deceased friends who have all grouped together to guide Tony for his return to his former life.
I enjoyed the build-up of the storyline. Would the doctors be able to hide Tony away from hospital officials and would Tony be able to get back before hospital policy decreed the disposal of his body?
As a Catholic, I wondered how I’d feel about reading this book. I knew the author had said he had written it to help others, and after reading the first chapter, being intrigued by the plot yet feeling that the situation felt surreal; I came to a conclusion. Water’s version of heaven would (of course) be completely different to mine and everyone else’s. What would feel like paradise in the perfect afterlife would obviously differ from person to person. However, the message, regardless of your beliefs, is clear. Lead a good life, and God will be on your side.
This was a quick read, original and, in my opinion, a page-turner. Try it. You won’t be disappointed.

Fun

As a believer in our lord & Savior, I found this to be fun and refreshing. The way it was done is perfect for those who run from anything that has a connection to “Religion “. No brow beating, it is a fun but also puts out the “message “ in a very non bible thumping way. A great read

Interesting view

This story seemed so far fetched that I almost stopped reading. But when Frank got to really talking with him it became intriguing. Although some may disapprove I like the portrayal of a personal God.

It made me laugh and cry with tears of joy

I normally don't read books less than 230 pages but this intrigued me. It isn't long but neither is the Sermon on the mount not Paul's letter on love, but it is heartwarming and good read for lent. Vivat Jesu

Pleasant read

I enjoyed the humor and message of faith. The author and I need to talk about Chad's words to Bev, though.

Three days in Heaven by Mark Waters is one of those books that once you finish you think about for the next couple of days. The situation is the protagonist Tony has a heart attack and is rushed to the ICU. While there all the medical folks work on him but have to call time of death. Funny thing is no one signed the death certificate. Not that they think he is still alive but it slipped through the cracks. Well good thing cause Tony is on a trip to visit god in heaven
The story is delightful and is a well written encounter with the almighty. Heaven we find out is pretty casual and some of the characters who wander in and out are right out of the pages of the bible. Nicely they seem more relaxed then when we read about them. For example god still teases Moses for breaking the tablets with the Ten Commandments. I thoroughly enjoyed mark’s construction of the various encounters with some of the heavenly beings. There is a scene where his wife joins him and is introduced to Jesus who excuses himself because he needs to go do something before a round of golf.
The net net is Tony is coming back and the hospital wants to get on with the autopsy which as well all know would render Tony’s body unfit for habitation. Tony has to warn every one through his use of the heavenly phone system that they should not carve him up. I won’t spoil it by telling anymore but I’ll just say the story gets exciting in the end.
I recommend this book for anyone who wants an excellent story and who enjoys humor, suspense and a great plot.

I tried reading this book but after 100 pages, I just gave up. It reads like it was written by someone in grade school. That's not bad enough, it's just not believable at all. He seems more intent on making sure people reading the book know how important he was in life. He mentions many times how he was a lawyer and he knew all kinds of doctors and surgeons, etc, on a first name basis. By page 100, I didn't care if he came back from his golf game or not.

What happens when we die? People have asked this question for centuries. Some people have claimed to have witnessed after life revelations, near death experiences. But what if…..? Now that’s the big question, isn’t it? Tony never imagined wondering about the afterlife or this big ‘what if’ question. He was already a successful lawyer with a loving wife and healthy family. Other than some rare heart defect, he was in perfect health. So it came as quite a surprise when, playing with his boys, he suddenly collapsed and, in Emergency, his heart stops. The doctors called it, recorded time of death and scheduled his move to the morgue. But Tony’s body didn’t go through the usual stages of rigor mortis and decay and those close to Tony started having strange events that connected them to the newly deceased or not so deceased. And Tony? Well, he was having a great time playing gold with God, Jesus and Moses. And he was learning, too, learning about what he must do with this newly introduced concept of ‘faith’ that he was being immersed in. And, three days later, … well, three is a significant number in matters of faith….

Mark Anthony Waters’ has a great sense of humor. His adventure in the life hereafter, “Three Days in Heaven”, brings some understanding and perhaps even some hope to the concept that something does happen after death and death is not the all-final-act of life that we all fear. The protagonist, Tony, tells his story in first person, while the secondary characters add their perspective in third person. As the plot develops, the story is told from multiple points of view and the reader can’t help but chuckle at the many bizarre events that keep on happening. But Tony is beginning to understand, at least somewhat, while the others, those still in the realm of the living, continue to be baffled and downright confused right to the end, which, really is another beginning and not an end. A wonderful story to re-instill one’s belief and one’s faith.
