Eric and Sarah continue their “easy” quest by collecting items to craft Dawn Acid while also searching for a way out of the Tower of Gates. Along the way, they meet a bigger cast of interesting characters.
Will they clear level one-one? More importantly, can they find a way out of the game? Trapped in the world’s most advanced VRMMORPG, our heroes struggle to not only survive but thrive inside the game.
Previously published as the second half of Goblin. Extensively rewritten, professionally edited, and ready for you to read. This is book 2 of the Tower of Gates LitRPG Series.
All right, two things here. First off, I loved the story. Secondly, the editing and proofing in this book was terrible. It claims it was professionally edited, but if it was, someone remind me never to use this editor, grammar errors all over the place, and even one place (near the end of the book) where it even used the wrong character's name when talking about them. That's unacceptable for something that was supposedly professionally edited. However, Those complaints aside, this book could easily be a 4 or 5 star rating, but in good conscience, I can't offer more than a 3 star rating, even though I honestly believe it deserves a 4 star one, I just can't do it, because of the sloppy editing. When a book makes me stop and yell at it in the middle of reading because of it's grammar or spelling, or continuity errors, I can't in good conscience give it anything above an average rating. I'm sorry the author is having such trouble with his editor who got paid too much, but reader trance is very real, and when I get jerked out of it (repeatedly) the book just isn't as enjoyable as it should be, and that's a sad state of affairs all around. Perhaps others don't care about such things, and that's fine, go on, enjoy the book for all it's worth, it's an excellent story, but bragging that it's professionally edited, then having grammar and continuity errors in abundance is just too much for me. Fantastic story though, if you aren't bothered by such things, and highly recommended on it's merrit as the story is one that really wants to be told, and is done extremely well otherwise. I will definitely be continuing on with the series, despite my complaints with this volume.
I am a role playing gamer, from D&D to MMORG I love ‘em all. My husband and kids (a loosely used term as they’re 17 and 20) are too, so I think I have the cred to know when a LitRPG is good. This book, as with its predecessor Hack, is more than simply good. It does what LitRPG is supposed to do, find a literally excuse (aka a good plot) to bring an RPG to life and then provide both the gaming experience and a heck of a fun story. Really well done Paul Bellow.
Plot has potential and it's wroth reading. Now for the but the characters don't seem to be learning from their mistakes. Some of the situations in the book just don't feel believable. I just couldn't get into the flow of the book due to not being able to believe and get into the story. It wasn't a waste of time though and I am going to continue the series with hope that I'll get into it.
I can't really pinpoint what it was between book 1 and 2, but I didn't enjoy this book at all. Maybe it was the characters not being likeable (or apparently being capable of making smart decisions), but I have no desire to continue this series.
it also doesn't help that the end of the book indicates that there are 12 total books planned. I think I'm going to get out of this Tower early...
Who to trust and who can't be trusted is really what is all about.
We get to see further developments in two different type of persons, we see more colorful characters and learn about death and rebirth in the game, and it really encourages you not no die.
Is this a game or is this really a prison? Has anybody ever safely disconected?
It’s a fun read with driven characters but it seems they keep making the same mistakes. There also seem to be numerous Deus ex machinas. It felt more forced than the last one, but with the characters moving on I hold hopes for the next story.
The story remains captivating into the second book of the series. Unlike some stories, the characters actual grow rather than remain stagnant. More twists....More turns....and more challenges await.
I really liked this book. Once I started reading I couldn't put it down! The characters are definitely developing as the story progresses, which i rather like. As they grow we get to grow with them. Interested to see where this author will take this series.
Being relatively new to the genre, it took me a while to get oriented to the characters, plot and subplots. It all came together about 50% of the way through the book and then I finished it off! Although #2 in a series, it was a good introduction to the author's Tower of Gates series.
Too much evil. The gamemaster must realize that Eric and Sarah are not from the normal portals. Something needs to give them a real edge and no more penalty for killing PC's that are trying to kill them.
