Although Ella and the Experiment by Lisa Doughty was "steamier" than I like, I did enjoy the characters and plot. This historical romance book tells the story of Lady Ella McHenry and Lord Dexter St Johns. Dexter is one of the Ton's most handsome and eligible bachelors. He wants Ella's help replicating a gun invented by Dr. Richard Gatling. He knows she is a genius and shrewd business woman. She agrees to help him as long as in return Dexter helps her with an experiment. Knowing she'll need an heir to preserve her father's fortune, she wants to experiment with passion to see if it should be a factor in picking a future husband. Dexter agrees and they begin spending intimate time together. But when their gun project results in a weapon that is more powerful than expected, Ella's involvement puts her in danger. After reading this book, I want to read the second book in the Ladies of Kent Series.
