A classic work of climbing literature. Galen Rowell's photos illustrate the very best works that have come from the climbing culture of Yosemite from the first ascent of Half Dome in 1884, through the Golden Age, and on into the free and clean climbing eras. It's a shame there was never a volume two to cover the second wave of climbers during the 70's and 80's. But this book explains much of how American climbing culture developed clear into the present day. And Galen Rowell's photos never fail to deliver.
