Out of all the French books I’ve had to read, I would say that this one is pretty bad. Don’t get me wrong it’s not terrible, and it is easy to understand, the timeline is just a bit confusing and the ending is pretty bad. Like a lot of the other French books I’ve read there is lots of lead up, and then the story just kind of ends in a mediocre way. That being said, the level of language is good for beginners and the author did a pretty good job of incorporating some historical information. Also I didn’t mind some of the characters, it was more so the main plot and characters that I didn’t love quite so much.
Overall probably 2-2.5 stars. The book is good for beginners and if you have to read a French book, this one won’t put you to sleep. That being said, if there were tons of good french books out there, I probably wouldn’t choose to read this one. However there really isn’t that many good french books out there, and the ones that are good use more complex language, so it is really just a matter of if you need to read a true French book or not, or whether you can just read a book that has been translated.
i was forced to read this book in school, and dont even get me started this is the WORST book i have ever read in my entire life. The timeline, the story, the characters, the plot, the french. the french wasn't even frenching, it didnt make any sense at all i do NOT recommend this book for anyone to read. thats what ur grndma would read (old people in general). if i could give it 0 stars i would. it was torture. failed my french class cuz of this book. praying on micheline marchand downfall, stay away from all her books!!!!!! they just published this book to meet the french quota. the book is so bad to the point where i cant even find it online, i even asked my librarian for this book and they said they have never heared of it overall the book is terrible, horrible.
I read this book for school. I very much disliked it. The friendships and relationships are not built up enough for me to feel emotion towards those characters. I wouldn’t read it if it wasn’t for school. It was only 150 small pages and I felt 10x longer
