Widower John Hambrice is barely keeping his construction company afloat and his children fed, so when he’s offered a job restoring the Rosalyn Manor he can’t turn it down. But the big city client with the high falutin lifestyle reminds him too much of the last time he was burned by big money.

As the summer temperatures rise, so does their attraction. He learns there’s more to the city girl than he expected, while she learns the country boy’s gruff exterior hides a heart of gold.

But each has lost so much in love already…is the chance of another broken heart worth the risk?

Love Comes in the Mourning by Erin Bevan

Optimism is not easily given, but hard earned. Bevan takes a chance on reminding us we have to do the work. Love Comes in the Mourning uses some of life's cheesiest cliches to drive home some hard hitting points. John and Leslie are a manifestation of the heartaches that are thrown in our way. From love lost to hope restored they remind us that to survive the pain, we have to call on our inner strength and find the wind to move on.

I loved this book! I completely felt at home with the small town, the characters in it, and the ways the community came together to support one another without question. I rooted for Lesley, and fell in love with John almost as fast as she did! I think life is always full of second chances and I found this story to be so real and so relatable. If this one is not on your reading list, put it there now.

Love Comes In the Morning by Erin Bevan is a contemporary romance- sweet and emotive with a little angst, city girl vs country boy, both still hurting from past love, chemistry starts to sizzle and temperatures rise, but will they risk their hearts again on a new chance at finding love again? This book is well worth the read to find out.
After divorce send her reeling, Leslie DeLoach could do with a stroke of luck as she embarks on a new beginning. She gets her lucky change when she inherits her aunt’s manor house and thinks things are finally taking a turn for the better. But when she lays eyes on the manor she only sees how much work there is to restore it- as the house is in dire need of some TLC- and this is where handy man John Hambrice enters the picture- and the story really gets interesting.
A little slow to get going and it took me a little bit to connect with the characters- but that really didn’t detract too much from my overall enjoyment of the story.

Thank you, Erin Bevan!

What I liked about this book was that it didn’t try to pigeon hole the main characters, it didn’t dictate, it gave everyone room to come to terms with their loss in their own way and allowed grief to have its moment.
Nobody is ever the same after they have experienced the devastation that loss brings into your life and I don’t just mean the pain of overwhelming grief at the death of a loved one, no I mean the gut wrenching pain that loss in any guise foists upon its unwilling recipient and in this book, we had too ends of the scale so to speak.
John was living with the devastation of having watched his wife, the mother of his two small kids, the woman that he loved more than life itself pass away from illness, whilst Leslie is reeling from a whole other type of loss, one that stole away the life that she thought she was building, with a man that she loved but that didn’t love her back, cheated on she felt a sense of pain and anger that left her feeling that she was facing everything alone. I understood the pain that her situation brought to the fore and I also understood that it was going to take a good man to gift her back the ability to see that not everyone behaves the same because she was far from willing to let anyone hurt her in that way again but when she ends up in her aunts old house trying to rebuild her life and the house, she may just have found the guy ..but it was going to a lot of work to get to where they may be able to have something more.
The story took a little while to find its feet and the characters were a little dull initially if I am being honest but as the pace picked up and they had a chance to show you who they really where, I thought the cam e into their own, the author was clever with the points that she gave to each of them to get across, I liked the fact that the author gave them the opportunity to express themselves, to show every facet of who they were and to explore what that meant to them and each other.
Richly descriptive and a realistically honest read this is highly recommended.

Love Comes in the Mourning
By Erin Bevan
5 out of 5 stars

The story Love Comes in the Mourning by Erin Bevan is a book that I loved reading. It pulled me in from the beginning and didn’t let me go until the final page. It is a romance story that touched my heart and I have to say that I went through quite a bit of tissue while reading it. It had my emotions going up and down the entire time I was reading it. It is also a book that had both wondering what was going to happen next and falling in love with the characters of Lesley DeLoach and John Hambrice. Lesley is going to the estate that her great aunt left her, Rosalynn Manor. She is determined to make a new life for herself and stand on her own. Then she meets John. John is a widower who is trying to keep his company afloat and take care of his children. While he knows he would like the job restoring Rosalyn Manor he is not so sure working for someone from the city would be a good idea. He has problems with those from the city in the past. Then he meets Lesley. There is an attraction between John and Lesley that can’t be denied. With John having lost his wife and Lesley recently divorced are they ready for a relationship? Will they take a second chance at love? What does their future hold? Read this book to find out. I grew to care about John and Lesley with each chapter that I read. I wanted them to find happiness. The story takes place in a small town whose residents all know each other and care about one another. I enjoyed reading about the additional characters that are introduced and loved reading about their part in the story. The author has created unforgettable characters and a storyline that has you hooked from the start. I would highly recommend reading it.

Loss, in whatever form it takes, changes a person. Whether it is the loss of a loved one to death or the loss of a marriage, how one deals with that loss varies from person to person. And regardless, loss makes people wary, especially when it comes to taking a chance on love. For John Hambrice, loss comes in the form of his beloved wife succumbing to cancer, and when she dies, she takes his faith in God with her and leaves him with two small children. For Leslie DeLoach, loss comes in the form of divorce from a husband found cheating on her, taking her faith in the goodness of men. When Leslie inherits a crumbling house from her Aunt Myrtle, neither she nor John, whom she hires as her contractor, realize that the remodeling project will rebuild more than just a house.

I honestly had a difficult time getting into this book because, at the start, Leslie and John are so stereotypically a divorcee and a widower that it was hard to like either one of them. However, as I continued into the meat of the story, the descriptions of the setting and the interaction of the characters drew me further and further in. It is unusual in a book wherein a person’s faith in God is a somewhat central theme for there to be adult situations, as there were in this book. But the author handles all of the love scenes with a light hand and I would feel comfortable recommending this book to mature readers 17+. I will definitely pick up other novels by this author in the future.

Love Comes In The Mourning is a wonderful romance novel by Erin Bevan. I have read a few books by this author and this one is, by far, my favourite. It needs to come with a ‘tissues required’ warning. I was in tears by the end of the first chapter.
Lesley DeLoach has inherited her aunt’s home Roselyn Manor and intends to turn it into a bed and breakfast. Little does she know how dilapidated the house has become.
John Hambrice is a constructor who is struggling to keep his business afloat after the death of his wife to cancer the year before.
Lesley and John could not be any more different if they tried. Local boy John does not know how to handle feisty city girl Lesley and lets just say that some of their initial encounters are hilarious and highly entertaining.
I adored both Lesley and John. John is struggling with the emotions that Lesley brings out in him. He feels guilt that he has these feelings for another woman after losing his wife. Lesley is trying to come to terms with her divorce from cheating ex-husband Peter.
This is a fantastic romance story. The writer has written a wonderful storyline with amazing characters. You also can’t help but totally fall in love with John’s 2 children.
Be prepared to go through every emotion if you choose to read this book. I would urge anyone considering this book to take the plunge and give it a try.

Emotional and Sweet

This was my introduction to Erin Bevan's writing, and I have only one question - woman where have you been hiding? Love Comes In The Mourning was such an emotional and sweet story - one that had two people grieving for two completely different reasons.

John Hamblin grieves the loss of his beloved wife to illness, a woman he loved more than life itself. Leslie DeLoach also grieves, but hers is for the loss of a marriage and the divorce from a man who cheated on her. Both prepare to start new lives, lives that will become unexpectedly entwined. Leslie inherits a dilapidated house from her aunt, that she is determined to restore, and hires John as her building contractor.

This was a beautiful relationship to watch. it moved ahead at a slow and steady pace. Neither of them willing to rush into anything too soon, begin a friendship that develops into so much more. Along with the development of John and Leslie's relationship, Ms Bevan also delves into Aunt Myrtle's mysterious story. So basically she is giving her reader two stories in one - both which are beautifully entwined.

This book was a wonderful read.

Lesley DeLoach is recently divorced and is determined to make a new life for herself. Lesley is excited when she learns she has inherited Rosalyn Manor, her late Great Aunt’s estate, however when she sees that the house is a crumbling skeleton she’s not so hopeful about her new start. Meanwhile widower and single Dad, John Hambrice is barely keeping his construction company afloat and money is tight and so when he’s offered the job to restore Rosalyn Manor he can not believe his luck. Lesley and John do not have great first impressions of each other as she thinks he’s just a ‘country boy’ and he thinks her city lifestyle means she’s all about the money. However as the summer roles on and the longer they are working together and as the temperatures rise, neither can deny their mutual attraction. John discovers that there is much more to the ‘city girl’ than he expected and Lesley learns that behind the ‘country boy’s’ gruff exterior actually hides a heart of gold. Both of them have lost so much in love before and so must decide if the chance of another broken heart is worth the risk. This is a heartwarming story which took me on an emotional rollercoaster. It’s a wonderfully written novel with some lovely characters and I was hooked from page one.

Love Comes in the Mourning by Erin Bevan is an amazing story. The description summarizes it as a typical love story of second changes and finding love, but it was so much more. There was a wonderful story within the story. While the main focus is on Lesley and John, we also hear about her great aunt's story, through journal entries. Lesley is recently divorced and inherited her great aunt's house, which she dreams of turning into a bed and breakfast. However, it needs a LOT of work, more than she expected. John is a local contractor hired to do repairs, and is struggling to make ends meet after his wife passed away from cancer. At first the two don't get along, and struggle to work together on the house. But before long they find middle ground and start to make a pretty good team. There are a lot of highs and lows in the story, and topics of love, loss, confusion, friendship, and more. We find out at the end there is more to Aunt Myrtle than anyone knew, but I won't give it away. I actually loved her story more than Lesley and John's, due to the way it was written. There was surprise after surprise and we didn't get the full reveal til the very end. Highly recommend and cannot wait to read more by Erin Bevan!

Sweet romance, deep emotion, and a bit of mystery are woven together in this unputdownable read. I loved all the layers in this story. Between the present and past they kept me glued to the pages. While the romance was definitely sweet and a bit of a slow build there were some pretty heavy emotions through out Lesley and John’s story giving it a new level of depth and really pulling you in.
I was rooting for Lesley the moment I met her. Starting over after a horrible divorce and finding her independence for the first time, along with being a genuinely sweet woman I found myself cheering her on nearly instantly. Her clumsiness and bubbly personality were night and day to the understandably broody John. John’s story is heartbreaking. A grieving single father just starting to move on after the loss of his wife he certainly wasn’t prepared for the feelings he had when Lesley came into town.
As these two both begin to heal, grow, and fall in love the truth behind Lesley’s mysterious aunt and the house she left behind slowly unravels with intriguing glimpses into the past that had me just as hooked as John and Lesley’s story did.

Because this is the way a slow-burn romance is supposed to be...

Erin Bevan, where have you been all my life? Some books grab you early on, then taper off. But not Love Comes In The Mourning. Oh no, Erin Bevan grabbed me from page one and kept me glued to the pages til the very last line in the story. Yes, this book is THAT dang good.

And you know what I loved most? There was a little bit of everything throughout the story. From the sadness and heartbreak in the very beginning, the humorous side of Leslie, and all the "feels" between her and John. Talk about two characters that were so realistic. The story was about as real as it could get. Oh, and not to forget John's kids...those two won my heart over.

Love Comes In The Mourning plays out over time--there's nothing rushed about it--and it's sure to make you feel all warm and giddy on the inside. When two people have been through what Leslie and John had been through, you can't help but to pull for these two romantic souls.

Amazing story that is worthy of ALL the stars! Great job, Erin Bevan!

What happens when a second chance in both love and life comes a knocking, are you ready to just go with the flow?

This book introduces us to two wonderful characters, Lesley who after her divorce has been at a loss but when she receives news that she has inherited her Great Aunt's house this may be on the up.

John is a widower trying to support his family and strive to keep his business afloat. He really needs the contract to renovate Rosalynn Manor but he has an aversion to those city types as he has been burnt once too many times, but upon meeting Lesley there is an attraction he can't quite point his finger on.

I loved this story from the very first paragraph, these two characters were well created and complimented each other brilliantly. The way the story weaved through kept me engaged and invested with these two people. The way the story delved into the emotional side of each of them was lovely and I love a book that makes me cry.

This is the first book I have read by this author and can't to read more, I recommend this book to anyone who just loves a good feel good story.

This is the first book that I have read from this author...but it won't be the last!

This story centers around Lesley and John. Lesley is recently divorced and finds herself moving to the estate her aunt left her to start anew. She is really looking forward to this new start...until she sees Rosalyn Manor in person. It is in desperate need of repair. While she finds the man in charge of fixing up her new home attractive, she is unsure if she is willing to open up her heart again in fear of being hurt.

John, a widower with children, is the owner of the construction company tasked with restoring Rosalyn Manor. While he needs the job because his company is barely surviving, he wants to avoid his attraction to Lesley because he has been burned by others like her in the past.

This story is filled with emotion. Both John and Lesley have been hurt in the past and both are fearful of putting their hearts on the line again. I found myself invested in these characters and enjoyed the way their story played out. There were some tears along the way...but they were worth it.

This is a heartbreaking and heartwarming story about finding love again after so much loss.

Lesley is a recently divorced woman who caught her husband being unfaithful to her. Unable to deal with living in the same area when she found out about Rosalyn Manor that was left to her by her aunty she saw this as her chance to rebuild her life. What she didn't expect was the house to be in such a desperate state and needing so much work.

John is the man who is called for the job. John's story is a sad one, after watching the love of his life die of cancer he was left alone to carry on and take care of their two children. Struggling to keep his business afloat and feed his children he remembers the last time he was burnt by someone from the city and is reluctant to work with Lesley.

However as time progress and the connection and attraction grows between them, they both have to learn to trust again and they both have to learn to let love re-enter their lives after they thought it was gone forever.

A Grippingly beautiful story about dealing with grief and moving on.

Having been through a divorce Lesley is at a loss as what to do with her life . Determined to make it on her own and gain some independance Lesley moves to a small town and has dreams of restoring an old house her aunt left her. What she didnt factor in was her contractor and the feelings he quickly awakens in her.

John is trying to keep him and his family a float under the weight of massive debt and the death of his wife. He takes on the job of restoring the old home in the hopes that he can at least lift some of that burden. What he gets instead is a little more then that......

This book had me hooked from the very beginning. My heart broke for John and everything he went through, and continued to go through. Lesley and John’s love story stole my heart and i never wanted it to end.

What a great introduction to a new author for me.

This book had me happy and sad; not to mention on the verge of tears so many times. It starts out on a sad note with John the love of his life. He's hardened, lost and struggling to survive all while trying to take care of his two little children. Lesley has just gone through a divorce and she's trying to find herself and her independence. These two didn't expect to meet each other, nor did they expect to fall in love so deeply. They helped heal each other. This book was sweet but deeply emotional. Not only did we get to follow John and Lesley as they discover the love they have for each other. But we got to see Myrtle (Lesley's great-aunt) fall in love and lose it all in a short time. My heart went out for both her and Samuel. What a profound story and heart wrenching story. Great book, wonderful characters. So glad I read it! *I voluntarily read an advanced copy of this book for my honest and unbiased review.*

Erin Bevan really hit the nail on the head with this latest novel that I read by her, Love Comes in The Mourning. I must say this is quite the emotional roller coaster of a read that will keep you on the verge of tears, if not ugly crying, throughout most of the book. The couple we meet, Lesley and John both have pasts that would make anyone wanna give up on love but together they will get a chance to rekindle love and try to find happiness once again. Will it be with each other? Can they heal enough from the pasts they have to be able to love again? These two were so relatable and realistic that I often felt as if I was reading a memoir. I loved how they both had a strong anchor in the book and rather than fighting for the limelight they both shined just as equally as the other. I cannot wait to see what we will get next from Erin Bevan. I know for sure I will be right there ready to soak it all up!

Love Comes in the Morning was my first novel by Erin Bevan and it was such an amazing read!

Bakersville, Georgia is where Lesley finds herself looking for a fresh start. She just inherited a grand old house from her great aunt and it truly couldn't have happened at a better time. She has a lot to work out, but she is going to take this fresh start and run with it.

John is a local contractor. Hesitant of city slickers, when his Uncle tells him he needs to take a job for this new lady coming to town he just knows she is going to be a pain. But as soon as he starts to get to know her, maybe he judged her a little too harshly.

John and Lesley are both going through their own personal issues. Each a little bit different, but maybe they will find that they could work on them together. I really enjoyed this story. The author did a wonderful job creating this book world in Bakersville, Georgia. The characters were really great and I didn't want to out it down!

Love Comes in the Mourning
by Erin Bevan

This was such a sweet and emotional story. There were definitely some tears and laughter while reading this book. Lesley has moved to a small town where she inherited a house from her aunt. She is recently divorced and is going to try to get on her feet again and regain her independence. John is a contractor who has lost his wife and is trying to keep his business afloat, but he isn't sure he wants to work for a city girl. When these two meet there is definitely attraction but neither one of them are in the market for a relationship. As I got further into the story I couldn't help but become invested in their lives and want what's best for them. There are also other characters in this book that make this story that much better. The attention to detail in this book made it so I felt like I was right there in the story. I highly recommend this book.

As a first time read of Erin Bevan for me all I can say is pass me the tissues because Love Comes in the Mourning gives you those heart squeezes. John is a widower single dad who is trying to keep everything together and afloat after the death of his beloved wife. He is not looking for anyone to replace her and trying to heal on his own. Lesley a divorcee who came into an inheritance thanks to her great aunt is looking to be independent and not rely on a man for anything. But once John and Lesley meet boy are things thrown out the window. This slow burn relationship heals both of them as the mystery that surrounds Lesley's Great Aunt Myrtle come to life. I love how everything comes to life in this one. A tear or two my have fallen throughout this one. Just hold on for this one because you are in for a doozy. Amazing read. I can't wait to get my hands on more from Erin Bevan.

I enjoyed this romance story. It is a sweet romance that will make you believe that you can find romance when you are not looking for it. This is not my first book by this author but it is one of my favorites by her. It is a well written story that is fast paced, engaging and kept me turning pages to the end. The characters are well developed and I had no problem connecting with them. I enjoyed how they are supportive of each other which made this story easy to read. Lesley is determined she is going to start a new life after her divorce. She inherits a Manor from her aunt which is where she meets John. They both have broken hearts and have been burned by love but will they find something they don’t expect in each other? I love watching their relationship grow throughout the story. I highly recommend reading their story.

Love Comes in the Mourning
By Erin Bevan
5 stars

This was such a lovely read; I was completely captivated by the whole book from beginning to end. The characters Lesley and John were wonderful; I especially fell in love with John straight away. I had my fingers crossed for Lesley the whole way through – I wanted her to find the man that she deserved someone who would love her like she loves. I could feel the emotions coming from John during the story; the author was able to get them across so well.
The authors writing was slow to develop but it was absolutely perfect for this story, there is no way a fast paced read would have suited these characters and their story.
I would absolute recommend Love Comes in the Mourning and this author and I look forward to reading more from Ms Bevan again in the future.

Lesley walked out on her husband when she caught him with another woman and still feels raw from it, so when her aunt Myrtle dies and leaves her her old manor house she is all ready for a new start....... until she arrives and sees the state of it! John is a contractor who's wife died and left him with 2 young children to bring up and with the legacy of her hospital bills to be paid....... so he really needs the job of doing up the manor! Can the two of them get over their initial prejudices against each other and work together..... and maybe the sparks will fly!

An enjoyable light read, I liked the main characters and a little bit of mystery thrown in with Myrtles secret past and so there was a good storyline

The story started out with a bang! Interesting and sassy characters but then it fizzled. It became slow and it struggled holding my interest. I didn’t care for the secondary story about the aunt. I see why it was added at the end but at the time I thought it was filler.

The characters building was good but again it just went poof and they seemed to be stuck. Each of these characters had something to overcome. They did work on that a bit as well as try to come to terms with their feelings. I did enjoy the whole dove aspect. That was cute and a way to tie things to the story. The secondary characters were nice too.

Overall it is an ok book. There are elements that are endearing. I felt like it was supposed to be more than just a romance.

Love Comes in the Mourning by Erin Bevan. This is a new to me author and I’ve got to say I’m very excited to read more. I love a story about finding love when you’re not even looking. Each of the main characters have past hurts and stories to be told that will have you all in your feelings. The chemistry they share is so well written you forget it’s on pages instead of on a screen before you. The storyline is well written and paced nicely never feeling rushed or lacking anything. It’s a sweet story that I was so happy to get lost in for a while. You can easily connect with the characters and it was sad when I reached the end because I wasn’t wanting to leave them. So excited to see where this author takes me next! Four stars and highly recommended!
