Another wild ride from Mark Gillespie!
The second in The Exterminators trilogy, it far surpassed my expectations. A wild ride, full of ups and downs, and more ups and downs, some double crossing, a bloody body count, and an unforgettable plot twist that will send you back to reexamine everything you read in the first book, and in this one.
Gillespie is the expert in drawing you to the precipice of success, only to have the hero thwarted at the last minute, only to set you up again. His words are a rollercoaster of emotions, fist pumping excitement and crushing defeat.
An apocalyptic story, with an eclectic cast of battered survivors. The author's portrayal of bare human emotions, even when faced with the annihilation of the human race, seems pretty much perfect. Humans do bad things to each other, even without staring down the end of the world, and that makes this book all the more real.
Loved it. Can't wait to read the final instalment of the trilogy.

I don’t know why exactly, but I find this book irritating, so much of the presumptions people make have no basis in reality, no logic. I understand that the black has warped things but making stupid choices over and over again just pisses me off.

This was an interesting and fast-paced pre-post-apocalyptic story of a single dad and his young daughter trying to escape and survive the mysterious and deadly Black Storm and its baffling effects. I recommend you read the first book in the series first, as this one continues right where it left off and doesn't really recap much for those just starting.
The storyline is engaging enough, definitely an exciting plot, but it seemed to fall short of being unique and unpredictable overall. Perhaps the third installment will help to round out the characters, but at this point, they also fall short of being root-for-able and are kind of annoying, to be honest. The most interesting character was Mackenzie, who was the ultimate in bad guys, but his name threw me off so much I couldn't get behind it. There seems to be no motivation for the persecution of the survivors other than madness, which, might be the point? But it seems contrived as the protagonists don't present themselves with any true traits that warrant their ability to stave off this Fever other than dumb luck.
I'll read the third installment, just to round out the series, as it's not totally unreadable. I like the premise, but feel it needs something more.

I received an advanced reader copy of this book in exchange for my honest, unbiased review.

Thriller

Is definitely the best way to describe Book 2. You are on the edge of your seat throughout this story.

This book follows on from book one, Black Storm, with Cody and his daughter, Rachel, having made it to his friends plane at San Antonio airport. This is their attempt to escape the Black Storm and the scary Black Lady. The Black Storm has covered over the sun and has unleashed death and destruction over the whole of mankind, as far is known. San Antonio was burning as they got to the airport, not without mishaps on the way.

The plane is packed with other survivors that have paid a high price or known the right person to get a place on the plane. Take off is about to happen. Can’t really say much more about this part as it would give things away too much!

Will they be able to find out anything about what has caused the Black Storm, who is behind it and if there is any way for them to defeat it and survive? It seems that Rachel is being targeted by the person behind the Black Storm and the Black Fever affecting other survivors. Can her father, Cody, keep her safe?

They come across a larger group of survivors, but also a handsome stranger who is looking for a girl that managed to defeat the Black Widow. What his reasons are, are not clear, nor whether there will be any harm coming to Rachel if she went with him!

The second book is another interesting read with some apocalyptic goings on as well as the fight of good over evil, innocence and guilt. I enjoyed this one as there was a little more happening and you get to find out the answers to a few situations. I received an ARC copy of this book from Hidden Gems and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.

Intense, nonstop action

I was given this book and the honest review. I loved this book so much. It starts off where the previous one ended with the small band of survivors struggling to find a way to escape the Black Storm and the Black Fever that comes with it.

The main characters, Cody and Rachael MacLeod along with a few friends embark on a journey that will have them questioning everything that they ever knew.

They run across people in their desperate flight, but who can they trust? We learn that Cody's young daughter Rachael is very special and holds the key to the Storm and Fever. Will her father and his friends be able to keep her safe until they figure out what it is? They must protect her at all costs.

I can't wait to read the exciting conclusion to the series. For now I have more questions than answers, which is what I like most about a book series. Mark Gillespie has certainly done a great job.

I only gave it four stars instead of five because even though Black Fever is a grood read, you really need to read the first book in the series. Without the first installment you're left trying to catch up with the storyline. I recommend both of these books. You will not be disappointed.

This is a really good read! It is one of those books that grips you in it's claws, and then lets you go- way before you are ready to be released!
I highly suggest starting at book 1 though, Black Storm, before getting stuck into this.
In this book many there are many revelations, and everyone's motives become suspect. How can you tell who you can trust? Where did Black Fever originate and how can they fight it? What's so special about one little girl? Cannot wait for book 3!

The story picks up from where book 1 left off and it was just as great as the first one. I am looking forward to reading the next installment to see where things go from here.

I was gifted an ARC in return of an honest review.
