Nnoseng Ellen Kate Kuzwayo (29 June 1914 – 19 April 2006) was a women's rights activist and politician in South Africa. She was president of the African National Congress Youth League in the 1960s. In 1994 she was elected to the first post-apartheid South African Parliament. Her autobiography, Call Me Woman (1985), won the CNA Prize.
A short but really interesting read. I appreciated the portion at the start of each collection of stories that gave context to the stories and the time they took place. Obviously I know the basics of apartheid South Africa but didn't know much else about the country at the time or how the people in the country were living. Kuzwayo's stories were interesting and insightful and I really enjoyed reading them. Even the shortest stories were well fleshed-out and didn't feel like they were ever lacking.
