Adventism has only one serious TIME. Time that never stops. Time that moves on and on. All other challenges faced by the denomination flow out of continuing time. In this probing book George Knight explores the • Why does Jesus wait? • Does the last generation have anything to do with the delay? • What about the 1888 message of A. T. Jones and E. J. Waggoner? • What was the significance of Questions on Doctrine? • How have the 1950s shaped Adventism’s continuing journey? Those questions, among others, form the heart of this important book.
It's one thing to read the pros and cons of Last Generation Theology. It's much more interesting to read a historian's take on it. George R. Knight introduces readers to the various people on both sides of the debate, how it evolved historically in the Adventist Church, and yes his own interpretation of what the scriptures and the Spirit-of-Prophecy say about this belief system.
If you are interested in Adventist theology this is a great introduction to the big issues. Well written, informed and with detailed references that take you on a journey of understanding and clarity on the nature of Christ, Sin and Salvation. Excellent.
I enjoyed this book very much. As a pastor, having received a Religion undergraduate degree, and an M.Div., it's interesting how little we were taught about the controversies within Adventist theology. I've been listening the last several years to Adventist History Podcast, which gives a bit of the story. I found it very interesting to read Knight's explanation of the the controversies that came about in the 1950s, and how they continue today.
Adventist theology on salvation can be complicated but Knight does a great job at summarizing key concepts that have lead us to our current ethos. I highly recommend this book to anyone seeking to understand the key components of works and faith as they relate to end time events for the Adventist faith.
