Painfully betrayed by his long-time girlfriend, Dex Blackwell, billionaire, heads to Mackinac Island where he is interviewed by London Marseilles for her MyHeartChannel travel page. London’s quick wit, gorgeous smile, and sense of humor make him question his decision to swear off women.
London Marseilles, like her mother and her mother’s mother, has a talent for finding the exact wrong guy. After dating a long stream of moochers and professional video game players, she accepts the Marseilles Curse and swears off men. Her 9 Reasons to Never Fall in Love, Ever episode on her channel, lays out the reasons why and receives constant views. When a seemingly perfect guy—handsome, funny, easygoing—walks off the ferry, she’s cautious with her heart, especially when Dex is vague about his employment.
A storm strands Dex on the island and somehow London ends up offering him and two other travelers refuge from the Great Lakes weather. Once again, a hot but unambitious guy has landed on her couch. It’s a good thing she has her 9 Reasons, or she might be tempted to prolong the invitation.
After Dex leaves, London can’t get him out of her mind and Dex does everything he can to convince her to date him—everything except open his bank account to prove he’s not the freeloader he appears to be. Can London find the faith in this man she’s fallen for, and faith in herself to take a leap at love or will she let her fear of the family curse chase away the perfect guy?
1. Daniel Banner knows how to write clean romance. Very well. 2. It truly is clean, but the chemistry is excellent. 3. It’s not your typical billionaire cliche. The story is about their connection and his generous heart. He’s been burned but isn’t bitter. 4. She is an adorable vlogger with charisma. 5. It’s a quick, light read, perfect for summer chill out days. 6. The secondary characters tie in from his Park City books, and I’ve always liked Clover and Zinnia. They act like little old ladies trapped in twenty something bodies and they are hilarious! 7. Travel across multiple stops from Michigan to Arizona, with fun factoids along the way. 8. The banter between the H & h is adorable. 9. Who really needs nine reasons? I only needed two. Daniel Banner wrote it, and it’s on Kindle Unlimited.
I was a little exasperated by the lack of communication between the two main characters. Then I came, across this line “if he did that, she might never learn to trust herself.” I appreciated the forethought that Daniel Banner gave Dex in understanding not just what London wanted, but what she needed.
That being said I did have a harder time connecting to the characters. I find myself swooning more often over intellectual communication/chemistry, than physical. This book was heavy on the later and slim on the former. The character’s were given well established backgrounds and great motivators for their current actions, I just would’ve liked to have seen more moments like their scene on the swings.
I loved the reality of this book. Relationships are hard. They aren’t always the fairy tales we like to read about and it is all overcoming our fears and insecurities to give ourselves completely to another. Dan really nails that point on the head in this one. I love the chemistry between Dex and London you’ll find yourself hoping they both get a happily ever after! Can’t wait to read more from this Author!
Really great story. Loved the characters. London had no intentions of falling in love. She always picked the freeloader, no job guy. Meeting Dex she felt the zing but once he said he was a ski instructor for 3 months a year and didn't have a job the other months she tried to back off. Dex was determined that London accept him for who he was. There was more to Dex then meets the eye.
London and Dex had quite the chemistry, even Clover and Zinnia could see it! But the curse kept London from letting herself like him, because he refused to tell her he wasn’t a mooch. They were incredibly cute together, so I’m glad that Clover kept working at it, with lots of help from Dex, who was all in! I loved the mother daughter relationship between London and Paris!
I had a harder time with this book. Yes, it was longer but it seemed to repeat and kept cycling. I just wanted to be done with it. She drove me nuts and I wanted to slap him. It was like reading a modern day pride and Prejudice book. Which I'm glad I stuck it out because the end was totally and completely worth the rest of the annoying book. Loved the end.
She doesn't want another another jobless lazy guy. He doesn't want another woman who is just after his money. Can either just accept them for who they appear to be? Fun as entertaining love story.
Truly an engaging story, Dex was amazing and sweet .. London had to overcome her fear before they could truly enjoy the connection that was evolving.. and a really cute appearance of clover and zinnia from PCFD stories.. need more great reads :)
London hasn't had a great parental example for relationships. She thinks she's cursed with the same ability to misjudge guys as her mother and grandmother. For that reason, she's developed her nine anti-relationship rules and published them on her blog. Dex is enchanted by London at the first glimpse. He's got nine reasons to overcome to win her heart though. You only need one to read the book--it's pure romance at its best!
Loved this story! Daniel writes the best love stories! You will be entertained and smile. Sometimes the roadblocks to true love are frustrating but I had to keep reading to see what happens next. Lots of surprises and sweetness.
