Jerry Eicher’s bestselling Amish fiction (more than 210,000 in combined sales) includes The Adams County Trilogy, the Hannah’s Heart books, and the Little Valley Series. After a traditional Amish childhood, Jerry taught for two terms in Amish and Mennonite schools in Ohio and Illinois. Since then he’s been involved in church renewal, preaching, and teaching Bible studies. Jerry lives with his wife, Tina Eicher, and their four children in Virginia.
I wasn't as big of a fan of this one as the previous two I read. This wasn't so much about Charity as it was about Wilma and Susie and honestly Wilma is pretty much insane. She was so obsessed with James and was so obsessed with ruing Charity's life that it was a little disturbing and at one point I was waiting for her grandfather to take her to the local me talk institution. It all works out, though I remain a little unsettled and wouldn't be surprised to read a book where Wilma goes on a knifing spree in the community.
this showed a different side to the Amish. Two cousins have taken over there Grandfathers bakery and are the best in the county. And they use that to try and get the sons of the new family in town to court them. But one brother has his eye on the new school teacher who has a secret, and a passion for painting. Wilma because jealous and prideful, not a good combo for a young Amish lady. Who will win there hearts desire and who will lose?
Charity Martin loves to paint, whuich she sees as her God given talent. How ever her love for David Zook is frowned unpon by his father, who is the bishop and he forbids their marriage. She moves to a new home in Nebraska from ohio. Her new bishop Byler hires her to teach the kids. He also enjoys her paintings. One that she donates as a prize to be rafaled off to make money for the school. This is a cute story of love and acceptance.
This was a charming Amish community story with lessons for all of us. I definitely recommend this book and look forward to reading more from this series Hearts of Amish Country.
