This wonderful phenomenon has been used by medical doctors to control sensitivity to pain. Entertainers, charlatans, politicians, religious leaders, large corporations, and their salesmen have successfully used it to control peoples attitudes and activities. Most people do not appreciate the power of direct or very subtle verbal and nonverbal suggestions. This book explains how suggestions affect our daily activities and answers most of the questions you may have about the phenomenon of hypnosis. It also shows you how to induce and use hypnosis to understand and help yourself and help others.
This short booklet (about 100 pages of content) was a quick and interesting read. The first part of the book discusses a model of the human body and the psyche and explains what hypnosis is and how and why it works with the subconscious mind. Also included is a brief history of the development of hypnosis. The most interesting part of the book follows and includes procedures and a scrip for inducing the hypnotic state and deepening techniques. This is followed by a couple of pages on post hypnotic suggestion, a script for self image improvement and terminating procedures. The remainder of the book covers applications for hypnosis (pain, stress, habits) some brief case studies, a 4 page lecture on the impact of Religion and philosophy on hypnotherapy and a couple longer case studies.
The 16 or so pages dealing with the techniques of hypnosis were the most interesting to me and I would have liked to have seen more information dealing with that. But the history was interesting as well. I look at the book as being an interesting primer on hypnosis that will likely leave the reader wanting more information. I was surprised to find the book contain actual scripts for induction.
I received a free copy of the book in a Goodreads Giveaway in exchange for a review. I don't know for how much the book retails. The book is pretty short, so I would only recommend it if it doesn't cost too much and you have some curiosity about hypnosis, but are not looking for an in depth examination of the subject.
