"Ellen Lee was busy, doing nothing. Much too busy doing nothing even to think of dinner.
"I won't think of the dinner," she said aloud, "no, I won't. Anyway I needn't think of it yet, it's not time."
But while she said it, she was peeling the potatoes in her mind, her left hand, lying in her lap, was cupped and moving with a rotary motion against her right one..." - The Floor

If you are lucky enough to find a copy of one of Theodora Benson's books, I urge you to covet it immediately!

Her books are no longer in print and it is as much a mystery to me as it is a crime.

She is one of the best writers I have ever had the pleasure to read. Her effervescent prose is peppered with deliciously dry humour and perfectly captures the nuances of human interaction.
She draws on a range of settings and periods, and presents a bleak and cynical world of failed romance, lost ideals, social foibles, and ruthless self-seeking.

At the present, I am trying to figure out how I can provide Theodora Benson with the audience she deserves. This review is a start!
