The Hunt for the Golden Horse

Rate this book
A golden horse. An unsettled score. And a treasure hunt that will push Poppy to her limits.

Poppy McKeever knew there’d be fireworks when her old friend Hannah came to stay.

She and Scarlett don’t get on, and Poppy soon finds herself playing piggy in the middle.

But the two girls promise to put their differences aside when the flamboyant owner of an Arabian stud announces a competition with a difference – a treasure hunt on horseback.

The quest leads the three girls on an unforgettable adventure as they race to find the first prize – a priceless golden horse cast in the image of the beautiful stallion Fearless Flight.

Can Poppy and her friends solve the clues in time? What secrets are hidden behind the gates of the Arabian stud? And who is the enigmatic Irish boy who has travelled so far to settle an old score?

The Hunt for the Golden Horse is the seventh book in the Riverdale Pony Stories, a feel-good pony adventure series enjoyed by young and old alike.

Perfect for fans of Lauren St John, Stacy Gregg, Pippa Funnell, Olivia Tuffin and Clare Balding.

She's done it again. Another beautifully crafted and compelling pony mystery with real, relatable characters.

It's not hard to fall in love with sweet, smart Poppy and her beautiful pony Cloud. This latest book sees her trying to get her best friend Scarlett and old friend Hannah to get along, whilst hunting for a golden horse! Not to mention meeting a mysterious Irish boy who is hiding his real reasons for joining the hunt for the golden horse.

I didn't want to put this book down! It captures life and the struggles of friendship so well, you feel like you really know and understand these characters. And again I was struggling to puzzle out the mystery with Poppy the whole time too. Loved it.

More please Amanda??

I really enjoyed this one. The dynamics between the characters are very realistic (especially the Poppy, Scarlett and Hannah old-best-friend meets new-best-friend dynamic), and Poppy's little brother Charlie is still able to steal most of the scenes he appears in. All my favourite equine characters appear too, along with human characters old and new.

Plot-wise the treasure hunt is fun to read about, and I enjoyed having a go at trying to figure out the clues before finding out what the characters made of them. The mystery of what was going on at the stud was engaging (I won't say more than that in case I accidentally spoil something for someone) and there was a good balance between the treasure hunt and the stud mystery.

All in all this was a fun, satisfying read.

Good adventure story

This book is well.wrotten, exciting and ideal for 9 - 12 Yr old horsey kids. My son and daughter live all the riding, mystery and intrigue in these books. It doesn't hurt that being set in Devon, they're able to relate to the landscape. A joy to read.
