Honey Moon is in a terrible pickle. She borrowed her mother's precious silver locket without permission and now the family heirloom has gone missing. Honey suspects it was taken by one of her best friends. She sets out to find the necklace before her mother notices it's gone. Along the way, Honey meets Shiver, who turns out to be much more than the owner of the newest popsicle shop in Sleepy Hollow. With Shiver's guidance and a bit of magic, Honey is able to track down the locket and learn the importance of telling the truth and the power of forgiveness.
Um, I like cross stitch, baseball, my children and grandkids, but not elevators or laundry. I've been known to run from mayonnaise and I play RPG video games. I don't have a favorite author although I read a lot.
Honey Moon has a sleepover with her friends, and she wants to show them her mother's prized necklace. After taking it out if its hiding place, in a book, she shows it off to all of her friends and lets them try it on. The next day, she realizes that the necklace is gone. Her mother would absolutely kill her if she lost her prized necklace, and so she must do everything in her power to find it before her mom notices. With the help of Shiver, the owner of a new popsicle shop, she goes on a mission to find out who stole the necklace. Along the way, she learns lessons about lying and forgiveness.
I definitely have to read more books in the Honey Moon series, it is just so good! Honey is a strong-willed young girl with loving parents and an annoying brother, and she lives in the Halloween town of Sleepy Hollow. She is a fairly normal young girl, but her town is far from normal.
This book is definitely a good read for elementary schoolers and middle schoolers. I personally was a big reader at that age and felt sad that there were no long books made for people my age. This story is about 200 pages, which is long enough to feel satisfying for young readers but not long enough to be too intimidating. The subject matter is appropriate for kids of that age, and the moral of the story is definitely an important lesson for them.
The pacing of the story is excellent and it will definitely engage young readers. The words are simple enough for young readers to understand, but the story isn't so basic that they will become bored. This book even discusses healthy eating, because the Shiver store has low-sugar all-natural popsicles that can be bought from a real-life company.
I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a sweet fantasy story with important morals, or for anyone who is looking for a new story for young readers.
I received an advanced copy of this book, and this is my voluntary review.
kid me would loooooove this /// reviewed for netgalley
Honey Moon meets the magical Shiver, loses her mother's heirloom locket, and learns a thing or two about forgiveness and being truthful in the process of getting it back.
This was such a fun, and enjoyable read! With interesting characters, this makes for a magical and whimsical read, and I adored that about it.
Shiver was a very interesting - I like what she brought to the story, and how she dealt with Honey begging her to solve her problem, instead of solving it herself. I enjoyed seeing how Honey worked through the issue of finding her mom's locket, and I really appreciated how it got resolved (even though I was already expecting this outcome).
This also had a nice message, and it conveyed it really well - about the art of forgiving and telling the truth.
The illustrations were also super helpful, as I felt this sometimes lacked descriptions of the characters. All though I did find the parents to be a little unrealistic at times, and Harry a little too annoying (though that was probably the point), this was a good read, and if this was published when I was a kid, I'd probably be obsessed with it.
I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review.
This was my first book about Honey and Harry Moon. It’s perfect for the middle grade readers.
It starts off with Honey and her friends talking about her family’s heirloom - the locket of Astronomer Moon. By the end of the sleepover the locket is missing and we find out Honey may have borrowed it without permission from her mother and is now in a whole heap of trouble. While she’s on her sleuthing quest to locate the missing necklace, she makes a new friend named Shiver, has a run in with the evil town mayor, and almost loses all of her friends. By the culprit and Honey both finally coming clean, the day is saved and the only deceitful people left are the mayor and his cronies.
This is a really wholesome book for young readers. Yes, what Honey initially did was wrong; however, her actions at the end teach kids that being honest brings about the best results and helps make bad situations end well. It also teaches about the power of forgiveness and that poor judgment one time does not necessarily make you a bad person for life.
I have a strong suspicion that the other books by this author have strong moral backgrounds and would be just as wholesome. I highly recommend this book.
A cute middle grade read about lying and forgiveness. It taught a nice lesson and would likely give a child the confidence to tell the truth, even though it’s difficult to do sometimes.
My one disappointment is that I had expected this to be a graphic novel, however it’s just a book with a few illustrations.

This book was so much fun to read. I liked that, as Honey is trying to figure out what to do about her mom's stolen necklace, she receives advice from a new friend, Shiver. As an adult, I already knew what Honey should do about the necklace. It was interesting to see how she worked through the issue on her own, taking advice at some points and ignoring it altogether at others. Eventually, Honey fixes the problem her own way and I liked that. This is a series I could definitely get sucked into, even being a middle grade book. I loved Honey's character and seeing her brother Harry from a different perspective.
