3 books6 followersI grew up in a family of artists and entrepreneurs in the beach towns of California. I have always loved writing, art, and foreign cultures. By the age of fourteen I turned my attention to the East, delving into yoga and eastern philosophy.
My fascination with the art and culture of other peoples has taken me around the world. My most memorable experiences are living in remote villages in India, spending time with indigenous communities in the Amazon rainforest, and visiting with the Maori people in New Zealand.
In my travels I find many deep, powerful stories that have been handed down throughout the ages. When I find a story I especially connect with, I contemplate how to retell it for contemporary children in a way that is both entertaining and enlightening.

Kosa Ely and Radhe Gendron gently introduce extinction to children in this beautifully illustrated and meaningful The Jaguar’s Story. Told through the endearing and innocent eyes of Inti, a jaguar cub, the family’s risky journey across destroyed natural habitats easily evokes empathy and concern for all life on our planet: an indispensable sentiment to invoke in the new generations if we are to restore the jaguar’s home, and ultimately our own. On a more person level, The Jaguar’s Story brought me back to memories of my childhood in Mexico City where I was surrounded by rich Jaguar imagery and folklore. As those stories impressed themselves fondly into my heart, I hope the valuable messages in this book do the same for many young readers all around the world.

An adorable family of jaguars survive and find a new home. It will warm hearts and educate at the same time as we learn about jaguars, their past, their present predicament, and how we can help make sure they always have a home. The paintings are masterfully done and so colorful every child I've shown the book to is charmed. My granddaughter asks me to read it every night she's with me. She loves the story AND the activities and information at the end of the book. It's rare to find a combination of gorgeous art, excellent and educational story writing. The additional pages at the back of the book are a treasure. I got so much for my money! I'm buying a couple more for friends.

Exhilarating Journey through the book!
My four-year old son who is a big fan of Kosa Ely and her family was fingers crossed, patiently waiting for the arrival of the book as we had pre-ordered it. The day the book arrived, he couldnt wait to read the book with his dad. Oh boy, the joy as his inquistive eyes went through the beautiful pictures, uniquely giving him the experience of the forest. As we read through the book, the different emotions stirred and what beautiful way the change in feelings swept through. A must have addition on the shelf to teach our kids and ourselves the important values of compassion, love to not just mankind but all the living beings with whom we share our planet!

I bring this book with me when I do childcare and the kids love it! The story is touching, thought-provoking and easy to follow. It teaches empathy for other living creatures. The artwork is gorgeous! A wonderful addition to any children's library.
