A really invaluable, comprehensive guide to traveling with your pet. It brings together a lot of information about pre-travel planning and preparing your pet for travel--including air-travel--that before finding this guide I had to research on the internet from a variety of sources. For those traveling by car, the large section listing pet-friendly hotels and their features, from a variety of chains, will be of greatest use. Interestingly enough, it doesn't include Motel 6, an entirely pet-friendly chain. However, those travelers not wanting or able to rely on Motel 6 as their default option on every stop while traveling will find Traveling With Your Pet a must.
When I'm planning road trips those AAA guides are great. Now there is a family pet to include and I had several questions. Many motels say they are pet friendly online but how to be certain you will be allowed with your pet. AAA offered pet friendly options for lodging, restaurants, and attractions. The bottom line is to call ahead. Will the online discount rates apply? Call ahead and find out is the only safe way to assure a place for family and pet. There were travel tips and websites offering brochures to smooth out the rough spots of pet travel.
A reference book you might carry in the car if you didn't have internet access. There are some useful pointers at the beginning of the book, four pages of how to use the listings & half a dozen pages on how to travel with pets. What follows is a compiled list of places to stay throughout the U.S.A. that accept dogs. Each place is assigned a rating of 1-5 "diamonds", however, no review is included.
