Our favorite car dealer is back, kicking ass and taking names, and she's just as fabulous as ever.
Julia Karr is a used car lot owner and she isn't expecting an invitation to the popularity pool. Her business is drowning with past due accounts, difficult customers and crazy repossessions. In order to get the vacation of her dreams, Julia makes a deal with her husband.
After catching a burglar, tackling a customer, and looking down the barrel of a gun, it's clear to this feisty car dealer that her vacation may be harder to achieve than she thought. Daily chaos drives Julia to eat more chocolate, buy more wine, and prepare for the afterlife. She could blame it on the contractor, the cheap casket, or the naked friend, but she'd rather blame it on the car lot.
K.C. is a wife, mother and manages the family business. K.C.’s husband refers to her as Hobbit size and claims that she is “nuttier than a fruit cake.”
She owns a complete set of pink tools, believes in aliens and secretly wants to become a badass ninja. In her spare time, she can be found daydreaming about leaving work early to eat chocolate and drink wine. Sometimes her dreams come true.
Cars, Coffee, and a Slightly Used Casket was a really fast read for me. I loved reading the first book in the series and the sequel didn't disappoint me. K.C. Hilton has created an intriguing main character, Julia Karr, with hilarious dialogue. I've never been a used car salesman and after reading this book, I never want to sell cars ever! It would be way too stressful for me!
However, I did enjoy reading about Julia Karr's misadventures as a used car lot owner. Her "say what you want attitude" reminds me of my own, though I don't cuss nearly as much. I thought it was hysterical when she became obsessed with the complimentary chocolate chip cookies and fudge at the funeral home. The recipes for the sweets appear in the first few pages as an added bonus. There is a "Discussion Questions" page in the very back of the book, which you can use in a book club.
Overall, Cars, Coffee, and a Slightly Used Casket is a well-written, entertaining, and funny read! I highly recommend reading this book, as well as the first book, Cars, Coffee, And A Badass Ninja Toilet.
Continuing on where the first book left off, you can read this as a stand alone. It is perhaps funnier than the first, in some aspects. There are also dangerous and touching moments as well. Some secrets are not revealed until the very end. I felt the narrative quality was higher in this second book. We still get the astonishing view of the used car business but even more of Julia's personal life and activities. From repossessing cars to tours of the mortuary embalming room and planting roses at the cemetery, there is a different air about this second book of the series. Julia's character is more rounded and in depth. The funeral home humor struck me as clever and witty. After this book is over the reader may deserve a vacation too.
Wow!! I thought Cars Coffee and a badass ninja toilet was great but this!! K.C Hilton has done it again!! A lot more wine a lot more chocolate and so many more laughs!! This book is a page turner that you don’t want to put down!! I can’t wait for the next one!!!
Book two in Julia Karr's crazy world of car lots, criminals, and caskets just plain gives the reader such insights into human relations. From the misguided would be thief to the broken wife and mom who finds peace as a t-rex, this story will make you laugh, cry, and sigh...(man in kilt).I am so glad I found this clever author, will be reading more!
