I wanted to like this book more than I did. I recall Bragan as an interesting radio guest in the 90s. After reading this book, he seems like he was a pretty demanding manager. It’s odd to have a book written by a guy from his perspective and have people quoted saying they didn’t like him. I thought the stories would be better, TBH.
On the plus side, Bragan’s transparency in how he felt about Jackie Robinson and how that changed was admirable, and his insights in Branch Rickey were interesting.
A good baseball book for the 1930 to 1990 period. Bragan has lots of stories and presents some interesting views of the times, players and owners. His view of the future (this book was written in 1992) of baseball is interesting.
