I'm new to Hazel's work but after meeting her at chapter con last year I wanted to give this a go. I'm glad I did. I found the writing to be solid and loved the story of Kally and Caleb. Caleb is very drool worthy and will make you swoon, especially if you're into a bad boy, man bun wearing hero! I liked Kally too and could appreciate the difficulties faced by her, she was quite relatable. Overall I enjoyed the book, I just found it a bit too short for my liking. I felt that there was a bit more of the story to be told as in my opinion things wrapped up a bit to well. I look forward to reading more in this series.

Okay!
Book one in a new series by Hazel Robinson. I've read other books by this author so I was keen to see what this new series was like. I did like Caleb. He has spent his adult life heartbroken, stuck in the past, never moving forward. It's only now when the truth unfolds that he can move forward. I know this is a series of novella's, but for me I wanted a little more depth from my characters and story. I felt like it was wham bam and it was over. you will be able to read this in one quick sitting. If you like romance novellas you'll enjoy this. I'm not sure if I've got an old copy on my kindle, but there was quite a lot of typo errors within the manuscript, it didn't effect the story, but I did have to read a few bits over to get the right word.

Hazel Robinson has written a 5-star book that has Kally and Caleb re-connecting after years apart. Kally has loved Caleb for a long time and Delia knew this so she went after him. Delia was just using Caleb to get back at Kally for something her mom and Kally's dad did years ago. Caleb is told by Delia that she is pregnant and they plan to go away together but on the day they are to leave, Delia comes and tells him that she is not leaving and he tries to talk her into it but from the look on her face he knows he is too late. She has gotten rid of the baby. He made a promise to himself that he would not ever feel that type of pain again. He goes to live with his brother and sister-in-law in Blackpool. Kally has gone to Blackpool with her best friend to run her uncle's bar since he can't for health reasons. Kally goes to the Tattoo shop that Caleb owns and she recognizes Caleb. She thinks that he doesn't remember her. He stands to get something and he looks at her and says "I remember you." Kally Richmond?" He asked, "if they could get together and catch up?" She tells him to come by the bar anytime. She grabs Hannah's arm and leaves the shop. Hannah asked, "What is your problem?" Kally tells her "That is Caleb Jones." "The Caleb Jones?" Hannah said.
Caleb can't seem to get Kally off his mind and his friends Bennie and Jamie set something up with her. Sworn to never have his heart broken again, Caleb Jones finds himself revisiting his past. Will Caleb take this opportunity and finally embrace the happiness he deserves, or will he allow his past to destroy his chance at the future he always wanted.
Hazel Robinson has written a tragic, yet beautiful romance story. Broken Promises is one heart-breaking story that tore me apart. I felt every ounce of pain the characters were going through and the anger they felt towards the future, that they could of had, that was taken away from them. Hazel held me captivated from start to finish, this is one brilliant story.
Caleb was a complex, yet wonderful character. It was clear he had lived through years of hatred, after someone tore his heart out and broke him. Leaving him a shell of the person, he once was. I wanted to hug him so hard and help him heal; to show him that not everyone would hurt him and that he was worthy of such love.
Kally was inspirational; although she had an edge of sadness to her, she still had an aura of happiness about her, and given everything she had been through, it was outstanding. Her heart was in the right place and she always put others before herself.
I would have loved more depth and background to the characters and to the story, I felt there could have been more that happened with the characters both when together and apart. I just wanted more, because I loved these characters so much. This, however, does not take away from the excellent writing and the beauty of this heart-breaking story.

Aww Caleb! He's probably my favourite so far, in fact this is probably my favourite story by Hazel!!
Caleb had his heart broken but managed to move his life on, now a person from his past has him questioning if what he believed was ever true.
Caleb and Kally's story is packed with drama and emotion and pulled me right into the story with them. I couldn't put it down and devoured every single word. My only problem with this story was that it was too short.... I need more. :)
Definitely a book for lovers of romance.

Caleb and Kally both have had hurt done to them. These characters are engaging and drew me in from the start. The connection and chemistry they have for each other is strong. The storyline kept me on the edge of my seat.

It's a short story but all about second chances. I loved reading this story and seeing what happens or happened way back when to the now. Awesome read
