2 Samuel: The Fall and Rise of the King

Rate this book
2 Samuel is the story of the rise, fall, and rise of King David, Israel's greatest King. It is also the story of the rule, forgiveness and promise of Israel's God. And as we look at David, we see shadows of Israel's greatest King—his descendant, Christ Jesus.

These six studies will bring this part of the Old Testament alive for small groups, showing them the joy of living under the loving rule of the ultimate Shepherd King.

Read through this guide during my winter/spring women's Bible study session. The guide broke up 2 Samuel and had different types of questions for each section. Some were more observation questions, some discussion and some application, which to me, are always the hardest ones. So some of the questions were hard to answer and thought provoking. Our group ended up breaking each section into 2, so it was done in 2 weeks instead of 1. A big chunk of the book at the end was the leaders guide. I wasn't a leader for the study but read through it anyway after everything was over as kind of a summary. Very interesting to really dig into 2 Samuel and seeing that everyone sins, including David who made a lot of mistakes but did remain faithful to God and I also saw that sin can affect your family too. Thought it was a bit odd the last few chapters of 2 Samuel weren't in this book and you needed some additional book which we didn't end up using and just discussed on our own.

Tim Chester creates excellent studies that cause the Bible student to dig and think deeply. The why and how questions, especially, foster great discussions.

Above all, this six-week study, combined with that of I Samuel, leaves the reader longing for the one true, forever King!
