A note from the author...
"Anxiety and depression can affect people for any period of time and in varying degrees of severity. I wanted to create a story which showed that mental health issues can happen to anyone, regardless of who you are or what you have. I also wanted to address that there aren’t any rules with anxiety.
Although no two cases of anxiety are the same, I really hope Anxiety Girl can help other sufferers to realise there is a light at the end of the tunnel and that they’re not alone in their struggles.
The characters in this novel might be fictitious, but the feelings and emotions experienced are very real."
PRAISE FOR THE ANXIETY GIRL SERIES -

"Phenomenal!"
"As an anxiety sufferer, I kept thinking... Yes, I feel that too. "
"Entertaining, sometimes desperately sad, very often uplifting and hugely life-affirming."

I really enjoyed the easy readability of this story and connection I felt with the main character Sadie. The first half of the book really portrays through Sadie’s description the feelings of denial and hopelessness which can come with learning you have anxiety. The various aspects of her life which led her to this allow us to see directly how it affects her and the portrayal of her attacks and feelings are extremely relatable. In the second half of the story, I found that the positive ending which is definitely satisfying might leave some feeling frustrated. It gives an impression that anxiety is something very specific brought about by a set of circumstances and then easily sorted. There’s no feeling of the time involved to reach this upturn for Sadie. I suppose for me with the great introduction from the author we then feel the story is meant to be an accurate account rather than a fictional account, where suspending disbelief can be made. All in all though a very enjoyable read.
This was such an inspirational story and I could relate so much to some of the things the main character experienced. I love Lacey London's books and would highly recommend them all!

BOOK DESCRIPTION: Sadie Valentine had a charmed life. Her mother, a jackpot lottery winner, furnishes her with a beautiful apartment in swanky Alderley Edge. She’s young, gorgeous, and surrounded by glamorous friends. Her art is stocked in a trendy place, garnering her more sales than she can know what to do with.
But Sadie’s life isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. The downslide starts when he fiancee dumps her, and things only get worse as time wears on. The only shining light in her life is her gay best friend, Aldo.
It all begins to take a toll on Sadie, turning her normally bubbly personality completely upside down. She tries to keep a smiling face for the other people in her life, but it isn’t long before anxiety, panic attacks, and depression overcome her.
Sadie soon realises that sometimes, it’s not quite as simple as picking yourself up and carrying on.
With Aldo by her side, can Sadie crawl out of the impossibly dark hole and take back control of her life?
MY REVIEW: I usually have a hard time losing myself to the story to characters like Sadie. Ones who live a glamorous life without money struggles and who spend their time shopping, partying, and living a life I will likely never know. I understand the appeal of these sorts of characters to But it isn’t long before Sadie became a character I could relate to. One who, despite our very different lifestyles, I could see bits of myself in.
If you’ve ever struggled with depression, anxiety, or panic attacks, I think you’ll relate to Sadie, too. London clearly has an understanding of what these afflictions are like, and she conveys them perfectly to the reader. Even Sadie’s panic attack symptoms mirror ones I have experienced myself, something that sometimes differs from person-to-person.
Sadie’s relationship with Aldo is a beautiful one. If only we all had someone like Aldo in our lives, I think things would be a whole heck of a lot easier. The way he loves her, protects her, and only wants the best for her is so lovely.
I think this book can help those of us who struggle with anxiety, but it’s also just a good story. Period.

The first book of a trilogy Anxiety Girl by Lacey London introduces the primary character Sadie Valentine as a bubbly young artist. Sadie is well established and shares an apartment with her best friend, Aldo Christine Taylor. Her mother purchased a luxury apartment in Alderley Edge for her 21st birthday. Sadie's relationship with her mother has never been a favorable one. Sadie’s mother has always been disappointed with Sadie's career choice and is often extremely distant and not supportive.
Sadie’s fiancee, Spencer Carter, soon reveals to her that he is not ready to commit to a long-term relationship. Devastated by this news and feeling blindsided Sadie’s life begins to unraveling. Faced with numerous of unfortunate events. Sadie begins feeling different about herself. She begins experiencing new emotions and is unsure if she is sick or dying she finds herself in uncharted waters. She is hesitant whether she will be able to get through this very challenging time in her life. Sadie's relationship with Aldo flourishes during this time as he willingly offers her the support she requires during the most critical time in her life.
What I enjoyed the most is that Sadie’s character evolves tremendously as the story naturally progresses. The author develops this story nicely, and it is superb. Sadie's personal experience with anxiety and depression is shared very intelligently and helps the reader understand what she is experiencing during this difficult time in her life. Sadie's strength and dependence is refreshing. This is a heartwarming story and the friendship that flourishes between Sadie and Aldo is remarkable.
I would enthusiastically recommend this excellent book to all young adults. The story properly explains and help readers understand that anxiety and depression can happen to anyone and at anytime. This story describes the complex problem and also provides multiple solutions that a person experiencing anxiety can implement in their own life. This book was a great read. A story about sincere friendship, love and hope. Anxiety Girl Lacey London is also the author of The Clara Andrews Series.
This book is about a woman, Sadie Valentine, struggling with anxiety and depression. She loves to play at nightclubs and tease people. She is a painter who loves dark tones. She has trouble being by herself with her thoughts. She is constantly looking for ways to please her mother when all along she knows it is futile.
She gets overemotional over things that she has no control over and she dwells in the past a little too much, but that is her character. Her anxiety gets in the way of her doing things and she is never spontaneous. During panic attacks, she isolates herself and shoos away her friends. At the same time, she clings to people because she is afraid of being alone. At times she feels as though she were on a pedestal sitting in front of the entire world who is judging her for anything she can think of.
During the story, Sadie gains some strength and does some things that she never had the nerve to do before. This part of the story really touched my heart. With her newfound confidence, she soon sees positive changes happening. It is a beautiful process watching her grow.
A few secondary characters need to be mentioned. Aldo is Sadie's best friend. He is a hairstylist and is very flamboyant. I really liked this character and love his energy. He offers her great support. He has a great heart and really cares about her. I loved the dynamics of their relationship. At times it was cat and mouse, but all in all, it was one that most people would be excited to have in their life.
Piper is a friend of Sadie's. I found her to be rude and in your face. I didn't like this at all and was wondering why Sadie would choose someone like her as a friend, given that she is so sensitive. In the book Piper says offensive things and then back peddles. This woman offers zero support for Sadie. Her lack of compassion was maddening.
The book is a serious read but full of heart. I really got to see Sadie deal with her anxiety on a daily basis. The story moves along at a moderate pace and kept my interest the entire time. As I read I felt more compassion for Sadie. I am recommending the story to everyone.
I returned the e-book after the 2nd chapter. I really, really wanted to like this book. As someone with anxiety and depression, I believe “Anxiety Girl” has potential to do something really great. However, I couldn’t even get to the part where she starts to recover. In my opinion, the writing style is rambling and very focused on describing appearances. For instance, readers are told 3 times with 7 pages about her long, blond hair. This then goes into a 3 page conversation about the hair while in the bathroom of a club. The main character is shallow (I admit it is possible this improves through the book). The main character describes her best friend as a a “beautiful, homosexual package” which made me cringe. That all said, since I did want to like this book I am am open to possibly giving it another try at another time, or to reading something else written by this author.
Anxiety Girl is an interesting read. It gives fairly accurate representation of anxiety and I found a lot of relatable aspects with the main character, Sadie.
The flow was nice, I didn’t get bored or have difficulty finishing the book. It’s also a short read which was a nice break from the giant novels I’m used to.
The reason I’m giving this three stars is that I felt it could’ve had better writing. It’s not bad, but it had potential to be even better. This could also be an issue with the editing.
In all, if you suffer from anxiety, or know someone who does, I think this could be a good book to pick up in your free time, though be warned, it could be triggering for some.
I’ll be continuing with the series. Regardless of my qualms with the writing, I’m interested to know what happens next for Sadie.
The journey into a breakdown featuring anxiety and depression was well described and authentic. These are serious but sensitive issues that need publicity and understanding, so I applaud any author who brings them into the spotlight. I just found the story dragged a bit and then ended suddenly. It's a series, though, so I'm sure the subsequent books will fill in the missing bits of the character arc.
As someone who has struggled with anxiety and depression, I was able to really relate to Sadie, and often felt like Lacey London was writing my own experiences out for me to read.
I would recommend this to people who enjoy and easy read but are also interested in finding out a little more about anxiety and depression.
This is a really good, non-threatening book of fiction told by someone who understands depression and anxiety. It's not a thorough look at mental health, but a good start, especially for a teen.
I really related to this book considering I suffer from anxiety and depression. I really liked this book and also the bonus story to follow. I will definitely be reading more by this author.
I honestly love this book and its so captivating it feels good to hear somebody else's story when your going through the same thing I have read all 3 books and i truly couldn't put it down and I'm 13
Very well written and a great insight into the life of someone living with Anxiety and depression.
It all gets too much for Sadie after a series of events and she finds herself falling into a depression, she doesn’t know how to get out off. She finds herself a user group to help her come to terms with how she feels and what she’s going through.
Found it really interesting reading Sadie’s perspective on her life and how she coped with things.
I liked the concept of the story but it didn't quite match my expectations. The writing was good, I just felt there was a lot going on in a short period of time.
