The destiny of the Three Sisters is nigh - an ancient prophecy has come to pass. The peace negotiated by the Tari has held firm for ten years, but a new demon master is rising. When Yani the Raven is kidnapped, sorceress Marigoth and her companion Ezratah are drawn into a trap set by a brutal necromancer and his insane sister. Meanwhile Elena Starchild's daughter Alyx, heir to the throne of the Mori, finds herself wounded and on the run in a forest full of dark magic; and in the company of a bitter enemy. Can the insular Tari, dreaming in the secret land of Ermora, be awoken before the demon fire consumes them? And can a Melded Child bring harmony before it is too late?
I write fantasy with strong women characters. I’ve published 7 books as me – Mage Heart and the Aurealis award winners Fire Angels and Aramaya, The Three Sisters and The Melded Child. I have a queer time travel romance called A Shining Knight. I've begun a new series in a new world called Shadow in the Empire of Light. I am also publishing TTRPGs in Call of Cthulhu. My short stories have been widely anthologized, appeared in Meanjin and read on the ABC. My favourite writers are Jane Austen, Angela Carter, Sara Douglass, Janet Evanovich, and Gail Carriger.
My current life ambition is to see an erupting volcano.
The Melded Child is a wonderful magical tale. I found the plot and storyline to be fascinating. It is not a light read and one that a reader needs to pay close attention to what is happening. There are a lot of characters involved that did confuse me at times trying to keep up with and keep straight. But overall, the book was enjoyable. I give The Melded Child three and half stars. I look forward to more by the authors in the future. It is definitely worth a read. I received this book from the author. This review is 100% my own honest opinion.
This has a plot that will hold your interest. Indeed, it's quite complex and I enjoyed trying to keep track of who was who throughout the story. Once again, Jane Routley has rendered a logical political situation in a well-realised setting (with some elements of Austraiana in it) and combined with two interwined love stories without letting the novel get sloppily romantic.
It could certainly usea dramatis personae at the start so you can keep track of who's who, the rest of it is well worth your time.
I am now looking forward to the next novel in this universe.
Here is a momentous tale of good vs evil, magic and love, in a complex world where enmities between peoples need to be overcome for the sake of life itself. Almost analogous with our own world...
