This is a great book to start with if you are just beginning to learn about the vast array of saints. The chapters are set up in a way that introduces a Saint, shares some of her story, and then that particular author shares personal notes at the end of the chapter. There are also discussion questions at the end of each chapter and I could see how this book would be great for a small group or book club.
Some chapters were so amazing, and others were less so to me personally. But I imagine that we all would feel connected to different chapters and saints based on our own lives and experiences. Great book overall. Looking forward to reading volume 2!
I agree with previous posts. The book offers some good research regarding the lives of some important female Saints. While I appreciate the information and found it valuable, I picked it up hoping to gain more personal inspiration. The content is presented in a very factual way, not bad, but I found it hard to visualize and connect with the information on a personal level. Good book overall, just wasn't quite what I was expecting. I would have liked to "get to know" the saints presented in this book more.
A nice, very personal book about various women saints. Each author took a particular saint and wrote not only about the saint, but how the saint became known, personally, to the author. That helped to make the saints a little more real - especially when the hagiography can sometimes seem a little difficult to relate to.
