This book took me a long time to get through. Some of the insight was helpful but a lot of it was kind of 'okay, great, how do I even start doing these things?' I think my career advisor gave it to me to read as an affirmation - trying to point out the things I am already doing that make me a good candidate for leadership - but it came across to me as more of a 'here's all the things you need to do'. I found that message exhausting. Is this partially because of my own imposter syndrome? Yes. The author does indicate that you aren't intended to take away everything, only the parts that are helpful to you, but since it's worded as 'here's all the things that make good leaders', it's hard to know which things to take away.
The other major issue I had with this book was that it felt like a big sales pitch for the accompanying workbook. The book refers to many helpful exercises but they're all in the workbook.
I did find some of it helpful and inspiring and useful for reframing some of my own engagement strategies, but I wanted it to be more.
