What I like most about this book is that it's a book, not simply a handbook or manual or guide. Butler makes a sustained argument for viewing style not as an adornment to prose, but as an integral aspect of how writers respond to specific situations and tasks. The exercises and activities he offers are all situated within this rhetorical view of style.
